His death shocked fans and sent ripples through the music world, but decades later, Kurt Cobain's final moments are under renewed scrutiny.
The Nirvana lead singer died on April 5, 1994, at age 27, from a self-inflicted shotgun wound at his Seattle home.
At the time, the King County Medical Examiner ruled his death a suicide by a Remington Model 11 20-gauge shotgun.

(29,272 posts)He was an addict. I loved Nirvana, his death sucked. He also was very open about his depression and addiction.

This is teh Daily Mail, come on.

The only thing I've always wondered about is the gun. It's really long.....how in the hell could he have reached the trigger while holding the other end? I'm very familiar with the gun plus I'm a few inches taller and longer than Kurt. I can't reach it when I measured it out with a meter stick.
None of it matters now anyways I guess.

(29,272 posts)We can argue without that. You are new here, so you may not know the vibe and rules of this space. Now you do. So stop attacking people, like ProfessorGAC, who is a nice guy and a gentleman.
And yes, "so you've heard" is a fact. Men often use long guns to kill themselves. Sorry that doesn't hit with your long-debunked conspiracy theory about Cobain.
You are wrong.

(157 posts)You're attacking me now, what the hell? I wasn't attacking anyone. GAC accused me of putting words in his mouth when HE was doing that to me.
Why don't you just chill out and stop attacking me?
I AGREED with you by stating, "Yep, so I've heard"
What is your problem?
My long debunked theory?
I don't have a long debunked theory. I'm not making ANY assertions. Didn't you READ my reply?

(244 posts)The story was he was sitting down and fired the shogun with his toe.
ABC123Easy
(157 posts)I have seen pictures post-mortem of him wearing his usual sneakers though.
He must've been pretty damn dextrous to use his toes.
Maybe I'm thinking of somebody else.

(76,215 posts)I'll just say that I'm shocked that this passed a review.
Lots of supposition that isn't supported but by a merely tangential connection to science.
Also confounding is why someone would inject him with a lethal dose or heroin and instead of making the death look like an accidental overdose, they then employed a shotgun to make it appear a suicide. That's 10x the effort by any perpetrator. To what benefit?
The conclusion smells funny

(2,716 posts)When this first came up decades ago, there was a claim that the blood from the shotgun wound was partially coagulated, which would mean he was already dead when the shotgun blast occurred. The million dollar question is, "Is this true?". If it is, it wasn't a suicide.
Further, this runs with the fact that if he had a lethal dose of heroin in him, he would have been immediately rendered unconscious and could not have then put the needle back up in its box and shot himself.
So, the details just don't really add up to a suicide when you look at them in their totality.
ProfessorGAC
(76,215 posts)...in this most recent paper, the hot dose of heroin is proposed as an intramuscular injection, not intravenous.
That would delay the drug's effect for at least a couple minutes.
That's why I found self-contradicting aspects to this report.
ABC123Easy
(157 posts)Kurt must've really meticulously planned this out. Easily believable especially in his mental state given that he'd literally overdosed a few weeks earlier in what was maybe another suicide attempt.
"So if I inject it intramuscularly instead of intravenously I'll have a few moments to put the gun in my mouth while I hold the barrel so as not to ram it out the back of my throat. Then I'll remove my shoe (hmmm right or left?) so I can use my super dextrous monkey toes to reach the trigger. So why am I shooting up again if it won't hit prior to pulling the trigger?"
I'm not disputing his suicide. I'm just tracking the replies. The image of him doing it is getting a bit silly.
ProfessorGAC
(76,215 posts)I never said any such thing.
The new report says a mark near his neck suggests an intramuscular injection.
The original medical examiner report does not.
The CT (IMO) report says that this was done to incapacitate him for the shotgun blast in the mouth.
You oddly seem to think he couldn't have planned that, but the supposed killers could. Strange logic. Either it's too convoluted or it's not.
I am positing no theory here at all.
I'm just questioning the validity of the new report because even without expertise in medical forensics, it seems awfully thin.
ABC123Easy
(157 posts)You claim that I'm putting words on your mouth and yet you do the same thing to me that you have a problem with? "You oddly seem to think he couldn't have planned that, but the supposed killers could. Strange logic. Either it's too convoluted or it's not."
I did not put words in your mouth, instead I read your post where you say, "That would delay the drug's effect for at least a couple minutes." Thus my post.
I agree with you in one aspect, I too am not making assertions, claims, or theories. I'm simply pointing out the absurdity of it all.
