https://www.propublica.org/article/save-voter-citizenship-tool-mistakes-confusionWhen county clerk Brianna Lennon got an email in November saying a newly expanded federal system had flagged 74 people on the countys voter roll as potential noncitizens, she was taken aback.
Lennon, whod run elections in Boone County, Missouri, for seven years, had heard the tool might not be accurate.
The flagged voters registration paperwork confirmed Lennons suspicions. The form for the second person on the list bore the initials of a member of her staff, whod helped the man register at his naturalization ceremony. It later turned out more than half the Boone County voters identified as noncitizens were actually citizens.
The source of the bad data was a Department of Homeland Security tool called the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, or SAVE.
Once used mostly to check immigrants eligibility for public benefits, SAVE has undergone a dramatic expansion over the last year at the behest of President Donald Trump, who has long falsely claimed that millions of noncitizens lurk on state voter rolls, tainting American elections.
At Trumps direction, DHS has pooled confidential data from across the federal government to enable states to mass-verify voters citizenship status using SAVE. Many of the nations Republican secretaries of state have eagerly embraced the experiment, agreeing to upload all or part of their rolls.
*snip*
Here's how they're going to steal the midterms: right before registration deadlines they're going to send out millions of notices that your registration has been put on hold. You'll be forced to go in person to try and clear it up and they'll tell you that they'll only accept certain documentation to prove the registration is valid. They'll delay you getting that documentation and by the time you receive it (if you have the resources to even try) they'll tell you it's too late and you can try for the next election.

(44,149 posts)1. I am really resenting all the accusations that Americans are dishonest and cheat
Im obviously an American no one has ever questioned that. Ive never had to prove it. I dont lie and I dont commit perjury. I think Im sort of an average American. We are being accused of crimes we havent even thought of committing. I remember when a cardinal rule in this country was innocent until proven guilty

and will use coercion, argument from popularity (half the country thinks Big Macs are nutritious, so they must be healthy!), intimidation, and a thousand other tiny dagger cuts to prevent the voters from voting for anyone else but them.
