We are essentially moving, he told Tucker Carlson in April 2024, to what is effectively a postwhite America.
In case that wasnt quite enough, Carl has also criticized Jewish people for wanting to relitigate the Holocaust, while claiming that Jews are overrepresented in the ranks of American billionaires.
In a normal and healthy political environment, these revelations would have led the White House to pull the nomination. But Carl, still backed by Trump, nevertheless went to Capitol Hill on Thursday for his Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirmation hearing, where Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut asked him about his stated concerns regarding the erasure of white culture. To put it mildly, Carl struggled to defend his right-wing worldview.
Trump nominated a legit white nationalist to a top post at the State Department. I asked him some basic questions about his belief in the âerasure of white cultureâ. Watch this embarrassing, fumbling answer. Like he has never before been asked to explain his views.

....After the hearing, one Senate Republican, Utahs John Curtis, announced his opposition to the nominee.
After reviewing his record and participating in todays hearing, I do not believe that Jeremy Carl is the right person to represent our nations best interests in international forums, and I find his anti-Israel views and insensitive remarks about the Jewish people unbecoming of the position for which he has been nominated, Curtis said in a statement.
While the Utahn is just one member, the GOP only has a one-vote advantage on the Foreign Relations Committee. In other words, if Curtis joins Democrats in opposing the nominee, he wont have the votes to advance to the Senate floor.
Given the circumstances, Carls odds of being successfully confirmed are poor and falling, but theres a larger question hanging overhead: Why in the world did the president nominate this guy, and why does Trump continue to support Carls nomination in light of everything weve learned about his indefensible worldview?
How did this racist asshole get nominated?

(129,836 posts)He was nominated because he's a racist asshole. In the Trump regime that's a feature, not a bug.

Thatâs good news, but it doesnât negate the underlying question that the White House needs to answer: Why did Trump nominate this guy?

'You're struggling': Trump nominee quails at demand to explain white nationalist rhetoric

This comes after Jeremy Carl has deleted 5,000 social media posts, including posts claiming that Jan. 6 rioters were treated worse than Black Americans under Jim Crow, and that the head of a top teachers union should be executed.
"Tell me what you think about 'white identity' and what you think is being erased about 'white identity,'" said Murphy.....
"So you're worried about white culture, you're not worried about you're now retreating to ethnic identity," said Murphy. "You don't speak about ethnic identity, you speak about white identity. So tell me the values that stitch together white identity. And make it different than Black identity."
"I would say that, the white churches, very different from the Black church in terms of its tone and style, on average," said Carl. "Um, foods, food ways could often be different. Um, music could be different."
"And you think those are being erased," said Murphy.
