I know Dems can crush MAGA in the midterms and Team tRump is going to do everything imaginable both legal and illegal to screw up the results but what I fear the most is the 2028 elections.
American voters must turn out in droves but since many Americans are brain dead when it come to US history and politics I fear we will have a huge challenge. Social media is also to blame as an exhilarant.
The electoral college has screwed the Dems for over 25 years. The popular vote is not what decides elections. It's the electoral college that is making me fearful.
I think ahead even though it depresses me. I am a realist.

(27,852 posts)...is to ACT on your worry! Campaign hard for a D-candidate, whoever is nominated. Help register Democratic voters in your area. Get involved with Democratic organizations where you can. Donate to campaigns and parties to the extent you can. Write letters, postcards, ANYTHING you can do for the cause. It will help. Vote, and bring friends!
There was a slogan in WWII that I have quoted to my Democratic groups: "It takes Millions to win a war; to LOSE one takes EVERYTHING you've got!" The next two elections will be WAR, and we cannot afford to lose. I hope everyone on this board can get in the fight, in whatever way they can.

(4,678 posts)after congress and the EC is re-apportioned according to the 2030 Census...
Projections show us losing seats/votes in California and New York and other Democratic states...
while Republicans will gain seats/votes in Texas and Florida...
(unless people stop voting for Republicans there, that is...)
TEXAS seems like a better target than Florida at this point,
and we ought to work to build support there---- and get 'non-voters' to actually VOTE!
(and the Trump maggot GOP is helping us there--- by alienating hispanic voters!)
We absolutely DO NEED to win 'the trifecta' by 2028,
and actually ACCOMPLISH REAL things for the people which they will feel and REMEMBER when they vote!!!!
but the electoral college math does not change until 2032....

(21,652 posts)It's exceptionally rare that elections are so close that 8-12 EV's are the deciding factor. 2000 was obviously an exception.

(22,529 posts)Go read up on the Electoral Count Reform Act of 2022.
It was a bipartisan response to January 6, and includes new, stronger rules for how electoral votes are counted, including higher thresholds for challenges to slates of electors during the joint session.
In addition, refresh your memory on how the states responded to the fraudulent electors conspiracies and the elections officials who refused to certify the results. Many states strengthened their laws, increasing criminal penalties for elections officials who refuse to certify results, as well as creating back up paths to certification, with either senior election officials or judges stepping in to certify results. (This would help in the midterms as well).
To be sure, there will be plenty of ratfuckery and shenanigans, but never forget this one absolute truth:
Trump is not omnipotent, and the states and the people are not powerless.

(54,840 posts)At the rate of "the tRump shit show" that we have been experiencing I have no idea. I've become a heavy duty proponent of the "walk the walk, talk the talk" and "follow the money" doctrines. I don't believe anyone or trust anyone for good reason.
I also agree with James Carville, who has clearly stated for years, that the Dems must support a candidate who will be a killer and not "Mr. Nice Guy". This is crucial. No holds barred!!!!!!! We can NOT and must not take the "high road" again. That's one reason why we are here right now. I've been pissed off about this aspect of the Dem party for 26 years (Bush/Gore). I never "forgive and forget" as far as politics go.
They hit below the belt, we'll hit below the belt. Real Dems support this attitude for future elections. The gloves are off if we want to stay a democracy.
