(Internet of Bugs) ChatGPT "Physics Result" Reality Check: What it Actually Did

So, the "physics result" seems to be a hype-laden glorification of what a symbolic manipulation program like Mathematica could do. As the video's author points out, the principal thing which was done was the simplification of equations (35) through (38) to a "conjecture" which is listed as equation (39). This is all seen starting at 01:40 in the video (i.e., on pages 4-5 in the preprint).

It is very unclear what the chatbot actually did as nothing truly specific is offered in either the press release or the preprint. The fact that it is stated that there is an "internal", "scaffolded" model does not help to determine what may or may not be significant: both documents seem to lack the granularity necessary for that transparency.

Without a great deal more information, it seems that one should treat this press release as just another flailing attempt at "catapulting the [AI hype and] propaganda".
