(29,573 posts)For some reason, it was a triple stumper.
I don't really know how to process that someone's first movie character stumped all the Jeopardy contestants and then he died a few days later, but there has to be some kharmic twist to that.

The category name was a huge help. I was quite surprised no one got it, since it's the Tournament of Champions. The two men were ahead with similar scores and they both bet it all, and the woman who was trailing in third didn't bet anything.
This is straying s little from Robert Duvall, sorry.

(5,792 posts)My mom (who died in 2022) and I both loved Jeopardy.
It didnt air here at all time that i could watch it, so she would call me and sometimes didnt even say hi before launching into the Final Jeopardy category. I loved that.
I wouldve bet it all on this one. She would have been very happy with this category To Kill a Mockingbird was her favorite book.

(4,250 posts)I haven't watched that one yet. But I would have got it anyway. One of my many fave movies along with the first two "Godfather" films.
Was always disappointed he was repug, but I just read he stopped supporting that pigsty in 2014.

He once claimed t o be both.
In any case, I never hired him for his politics. I hired him for his story telling. He will be missed.

(2,642 posts)was his role in the Twilight Zone episode, "Miniature." His character was one everybody could identify with, a person who never could fit in with everybody else but found comfort in escaping to a library dollhouse. Great episode. Duvall should have won an Emmy for it.

Robert Duvall delivers a gentle, nuanced performance as Charley Parkes, a demure, awkward introvert who lives with his mother. He is single but his mother (Pert Kelton), sister Myra (Barbara Barrie), and his brother-in-law Buddy (Lennie Weinrib) all continually treat him like a child. During the day, Charley works a menial job, but in the evenings he visits a nearby museum where a miniature vintage dollhouse is put on display behind a glass casing.

(28,842 posts)This clip!! Thank you! Having some memory issues, good to have a visual.
I remember that movie, he said. If it came out sooner, I'd be living in Canada.
Good old Robert Duvall.. may he rest in peace.

(28,122 posts)I remember several things he spoke about. Remarkable man and actor.
On edit: he was in that Twilight Zone about the dollhouse which came to life. Also the cab driver in Bullitt, and as recently as the Jack Reacher film with Tom Cruise. Memorable.

You don't think I had anything to do with his death, do you?
Maybe if I think about Trump tonight.............. hey, it's worth a shot.

(76,267 posts)When I first saw that movie, it was named "The Ace".
They tested 3 different titles & The Ace stuck.
It was after the movie became big on cable premium channels & created a buzz, it was renamed prior to a second theatrical release.
So, I knew "The Ace" and it took a bit to realize Santini was the same movie!

(7,517 posts)When I asked my husband which Duvall roles I want to see soon, he guessed To Kill a Mockingbird, but it is a tiny role for him
I want to watch Lonesome Dove and Secondhand Lions (and yes we own the DVDs, along with Crazy Heart, Open Range and Broken Trail).
I do not need to see Godfather or Apocalypse or Santini again. Nothing to do with the quality of the acting.
