Healthcare is draining Social Security checks, and the squeeze is getting worse.
Out-of-pocket healthcare spending in retirement is mountains more than people plan for. Even including Medicare coverage and ignoring long-term care, retirees face sizable out-of-pocket costs for premiums, copays, and uncovered medical services.
Moving forward, we're going to see really big portions of people's Social Security checks going toward medical costs, Rutledge said. The picture isnt going to get any better anytime soon.

(150,945 posts)from Allina/Aetna. Nothing has gone up much. We pay about $80 a month extra for the plan. I have no copays for my meds. My wife has a $6 copay for one of hers. I don't see a doctor very often, so I don't really have any additional costs so far. My wife does see doctors more than I do and gets some diagnostic tests from time to time. Her costs have not gone up either, since all are handled by the Allina healthcare network we're in.
That's how ours is, anyhow. We picked very carefully to keep our doctors, etc. No problems so far.
