http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2012/12/30/new-california-laws-going-into-effect-in-2013/SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) Homeowners will have increased protections from foreclosure under some of the hundreds of state laws taking effect with the new year.
California also is studying whether to create the nations first state-administered retirement savings program for some 6 million private-sector workers, although it will take additional legislation before the program can be fully implemented.
Other laws address emotional issues such as guns and hunting. Second Amendment advocates can no longer carry rifles and shotguns in public to protest gun control laws, and hunters are banned from using hounds to track bobcats and bears.
Gov. Jerry Brown signed nearly 900 bills into law in 2012, most of which take effect Jan. 1. The legislation covers a wide range of topics, from pension changes for public employees to new funding mechanisms for a state park system that has been tainted by financial scandals.

(38,437 posts)1. That's the good stuff.
There's more:
In California, more than 800 laws are about to take effect, including one that allows driverless vehicles on the road. But a human must be present in the passenger's seat of all computer-driven cars.
As for those Californians who are still driving, you can now whip out your proof of insurance on your smart phone if police pull you over.

I found this on Yahoo News on my way to check email. Yahoo does not approach their news with any particular gravitas.
