ICE's Youngest Prisoner

It was approaching midnight on Monday in Dilley, Texas, and a two-month-old boy named Juan Nicolás required immediate medical attention because he couldn’t breathe, and the doctor wasn’t there.

His mother — a woman who had crossed whatever desert and river and checkpoint stood between her child and a life — screamed for help the way only a mother can scream. And what came back was a shrug dressed in official language. No physician on site at this hour. Nothing to be done.

This is the United States of America in 2026.

I object strenuously! This is fucking outrageous and I protest! And I have words or them, but they are even less printable than what I wrote, and are in several languages.

When we use 'we' we let the Magatrump voters who DID vote for this off the hook. It creates no demarc between us and them.

I have an update on Juan Nicolás, the 2-month-old baby detained at Dilley, and his mother.

Me and my team have been in contact with Juan’s family. Juan has bronchitis—according to his mom—and at some point in the last several hours he was unresponsive. Juan was still discharged from the hospital despite that around midnight today.

Juan’s mom went in front of an immigration judge this morning. She was told she will be deported, but was not told when or where. Both Juan and his mom are back at Dilley and their future remains uncertain.

We are all deeply concerned that Juan and his mom will be deported and that Juan’s health will continue to deteriorate. His life is in danger because of ICE’s monstrous cruelty. I will continue to provide updates and we will keep fighting to protect them.
