Touching story about Jesse Jackson's mother and my thoughts about the role of black women
Victor Blackwell was just on CNN talking about the Reverand. One of things he said was that Jackson talked about his very humble upbringing. He said that his mother, during his childhood, would cook Thanksgiving dinner for a family across town, and then bring the turkey carcass and the leftovers home to her own family, which they would eat at eight o'clock that night.
Think of his mother in this scenario. I'm just surmising, of course, but I think some of what drove him to always be on the side of the people was the memory of his hardworking mother and others like her who sacrificed and toiled for decades. The role of black women, of course, reverberates through our politics to this day, and it is not just a coincidence that they have always been able to see through trump. Hat tip to them, but let's keep in mind that their superior judgement was hard earned.
RIP, Jesse Jackson!!
