If you're interested in tech-art activism, see also Graffiti Research Lab, which started working with political projection back in 2006; e.g., "Laser Tag," https://www.flickr.com/photos/urban_data/396087127/ (video at https://graffitiresearchlab.com/rotterdam/laser_tag_WEB.mov ), in which the public were invited to "write" their own projections. More on GRL at https://graffitiresearchlab.com/blog/ .

GRL used a different kind of public light display in Light Criticism, shown at

Protest projections also occurred in connection with the 2011 Occupy Wall St. movement; see, e.g., https://boingboing.net/2011/11/17/interview-with-the-occupy-wall.html and https://hyperallergic.com/the-power-of-mobile-guerrilla-light-projections/ .

Artists have always made great protest art, which is why they've always been feared and persecuted by tyrants.
