Although some analysts say that "entertainment" programming (definitely Colbert) doesn't fall under the FCC's purview, talk radio is largely political. If the FCC is looking for somewhere to flex their muscles, why not spread the love to them as well?
Could it possibly be because of the conservative bent on most of these programs? Just a wild idea I thought I'd throw out there.

at the assertions I've heard over the past 25 years that the Fairness Doctrine was toothless, useless and irrelevant given multi- and streaming media, and could never be used effectively again. Well, giggle ain't the right word... maybe 'pained groan.'
