Potential Reaction to Tariff Ruling

I would bet a decent amount of money that Mango Mussolini will just keep the tariffs and keep the money that it's already collected.

Why?

Because what if he does? There are no repercussions. Are they going to arrest him? Who would do that?

I mean he might comply but I think a time will come that he won't because, eventually people on his team will decide to call the bluff of Congress and the courts.
They (the judicial and legislative branches) have, of their own accord, infused the Executive branch with truly unlimited power.

For those that say they will comply because it's the law, I would point you to the fact that the DOJ itself is currently ignoring hundreds of court orders with no inclination they intend to ever comply.

2. Well... that just might be the issue--ignoring the courts (among many)

that shocks R's in Congress to side with Dems on impeachment. 'Hard to read the tealeaves but the time is near when enough MAGA will have turned away to give R's in Congress license to actually DO THEIR GD JOB! (and to fear for their and their family's future).

3. The court did not address the issue as to whether the money had to be paid back.

Trump will be taken to court over it.

4. No question that he will comply with *this* ruling

Today’s ruling didn’t cover any of the sector tariffs, and there are at least three other laws he can invoke to impose more tariffs.

This ruling only affected tariffs imposed under the fake “emergency” declared under IEEPA.

6. So there is a bigger point I'm making

With OPs like this. That the other two branches have conceded enormous power to the Executive, literally making them above the law. They use that authority in big and small ways every single day, much of it completely out of the public view and all of it incredibly illegal and in complete disregard for the expressed core values of our country.

We are currently completely at the mercy of a bunch of criminals in the process of fleecing the national treasury.

7. You are correct about this administration acting with lawless impunity

But you are wrong that we are completely at their mercy, as today’s ruling shows.

While it didn’t cover all tariffs, the ruling was still a significant assertion by the court in defense of Congress’ power of the purse.

Despite acting with lawless impunity on a daily basis, this administration has been stalled, stymied or restrained numerous times over the past year.

Never forget this one absolute truth:

Trump is not omnipotent, and the states, the courts, and the people are not powerless.

Trump has much power, but, beyond the executive branch, he has very little actual control.

8. I would argue my assertion is accurate

The courts and states and Congress, under the conditions they themselves created, gave unlimited power to the executive.
I say that because power is NOT in a pen but in the power to back up that pen with a sword.
There is more heavily armed ice agents then police in most states. Not to mention the federalizing of the national guard. Or declare martial law and order the installation of military governors and the suspension of Congress and the courts and the Constitution.

I get it, sounds absurd but I have zero doubt, that eventually, that is exactly what he will do to hold onto power.

No, I don't believe people will rise up either. They might protest but the American people have already proven to be servile and spineless and they will, by and large, just fall into line and do whatever the dictator tells them.
How do I know that?
Because most Americans were more mad about the Bad Bunny half time show than the government overtly protecting Pedophiles.

9. I don't know where you get your information or what evidence you base your assumptions on

But you might want to expand your news sources beyond clickbait outrage farms.

The facts, for the record:

No troops deployed in Portland or Chicago (Trump obeyed court orders)

Kilmer Garcia is free on US soil.

5 year old Liam and his father are free and back home.

EO’s banning mail in voting and other election restrictions have been ignored by the states.

And many, many other examples of how this administration has been stalled, stymied or restrained despite acting with lawless impunity on a daily basis.

There is more heavily armed ice agents then police in most states.

Utterly false. It was true in Minneapolis during the surge operation, but no longer.

I dispute your assertion that most Americans are spineless and passively compliant. The people of Portland, Minneapolis, Chicago and other major cities are clear evidence refuting your statement.

Note: nationwide martial law is a physical impossibility.
