NYC is about to get pounded with snow again Sunday into Monday

I really detest January and February. Even March is only a slight improvement, but I am eager to escape this dreadful month.

How do folks in cold climates such as Minnesota and Alaska manage to endure it so frequently? Do they not have cars to dig out? After the storm we had a few weeks ago, I dug mine out for the first time in 10 years and it was torture! It took me like two hours to do mine and a neighbor's. I can't even begin to imagine doing it all the time.

And my job closed, which meant no pay for the day. It's almost certain that they will close again this Monday. FML.

Western NY - Greater Rochester, Uni in Lewiston, lived in Buff a year or two . . ..

My sympathy. Manhattan is not designed for mass snow removal. People don't understand it's a tale of two states. I'm in Hunterdon County in NJ and even here!?!? People aren't prepared for bad snow conditions.

Snow is always a PITA where cars are concerned, but the cities have efficient snow removal operations. If there's a lot of snow the city will declare a snow emergency, so you know ahead of time where you can and can't park your car, then you can move it ahead of the snow so the plows can come through. Once the street is plowed you can move your car back to the plowed location. That way the street is clear and your car won't get stuck. There are some tricks like raising your windshield wipers before it snows so they won't freeze to the windshield. Most people have a set of jumper cables and a snow shovel and a bag of sand or cat litter in case they do get stuck. And someone always turns up to help you push your car out of a stuck spot if necessary.

It kinda gets turned into a block party. Most that are able are out helping to clear the driveways and walkways for others. Geysers of snow rise from the driveways settling out of the way on yards, people clear the snow from cars and cleanup around the vehicle with shovels. Just another excuse to get together.
