The Reich Wing wants him to fail. The racists in the GOP are salivating at the chance to say he cant lead because snow is on the ground.
Dont let them!
If you are in a position to aid in snow shoveling and snow removal, please do it!
If its good for Mamdani its bad for the Reich Wing. They want him to fail so dont give them the satisfaction of rubbing it in our noses!

(620 posts)Sheetz, the gas station pays 21 an hour if you work in the kitchen and I think 20 for the cash register.
Shoveling snow needs to pay a lot more.

(37,472 posts)you'd expect the government to actually obey the law as written and engrossed--both federal, state, and local.
Otherwise, "We're a nation of laws" becomes equivalent to "We're a nation of lies." Granted, it's just a simple change, having that offglide go forward instead of backwards, but it's a bad look.

(13,863 posts)I don't see why he can't just pay city workers overtime. He's not going to be able to get people off the street to run snow plows. And, if you ever shoveled snow with a shovel, you know for a fact you're not going to be doing it for 40 hours. Especially if you're not in great shape. You're asking for a permanent back injury or a heart attack.

(13,863 posts)This looks a bit too seat-of-the-pants and showy. You don't want to innovate in a big showy way right before a big storm. The snow doesn't care.
On the other hand, it could pay off, either from a PR perspective or legitimately. If the snow storm isn't that bad and he gets 100 volunteers, he can take credit for the weather. Or, if he gets 10,000 volunteers and it's a brutal snowstorm, and they save the day, he wins there too. So he does have an upside. But I think it's risky.

(28,153 posts)was elected mayor, they had a big snowstorm soon after, IIRC, and there were millions of people who never forgave him for not getting every snowflake off the streets.

(26,288 posts)Every hurricane Ive been in, and there have been many, every able bodied person picks up a broom, leaf blower or something to clear driveways, sidewalks and makes a path thru the middle of the street for vehicles and evidently, the trucks that come and haul debris away. Its neighbors helping neighbors. The mayor is right..if ya can help, then help and quit complaining about 💩 no one has control over. Its winter and its a real good chance its gonna snow

(4,356 posts)vs. MAGAts on this is silly and lame. Extreme weather can be deadly, and a traveling ban is in effect for NYC.
And the blizzard hasn't even happened yet.

Here are the primary ways to assist:
1. Snow Shoveling - "Shovel Squad"
Volunteering: When significant snowfall occurs before a game, the Patriots often call for volunteers to help clear seating areas.
How to join: Information is typically posted on the Gillette Stadium Facebook page or through local news outlets when the need arises.
2. Event Day Volunteering
We Do Care Organization: This group frequently partners with Gillette Stadium to provide staffing for NFL games and concerts.
Perks: Volunteers generally receive free entry to the event, free parking, and sometimes a meal, while supporting families of fallen heroes.
Requirements: Volunteers must be 18+, sign up in advance, and typically commit to 8+ hours.
Buffalo does the same, paying $20.00/hr.
