Republicans still don't like the deal.

<...>

Predictably, Republicans respond with outrage to the president's speech, although I have to say, I have no idea what speech they were watching:

Cantor's lead spokesguy // RT @dougheye: If Obama's goal was to harm the process and make going over the cliff more likely, he's succeeding.
— @edatpost via HootSuite

RT @JakeSherman: a top McConnell aide --> RT @HolmesJosh: Potus just moved the goalpost again. Significantly. This is new

Dear Democrats: Please stop trying to negotiate with these fuckers.

They're an embarrassment, and they're going to embarrass you in the process.

The deal is about appeasing the rich and protecting wasteful military spending.

Want real deficit reduction: Go over the cliff. Period.

Over the cliff. No negotiations with hostage-takers. You're just setting yourself up and emboldening them for next time.

The right wing press will squawk about Obama not trying. Actually, they have been doing just that. then the MSM will say both sides are to blame. However, I don't think a majority will buy it.

available to the public the last few days which has already been ingrained into the American public perception. He even joked about spending the night in DC for New Years. The media can try all they want but they can't manipulate the President's presence, and earnest to make a deal.

Which is why if the Republicans bulk at the deal, it will only strengthen Obama's support with the American public.

They like to get their way, and that's all they like.

Their idea of "compromise" is roughly equivalent to that of my 3-year-old.

Are you just pretending that you don't already know everything is already fucked?

Its been fucked for a while. Our civilization is a corrupt, rotting shit corpse. Every benefit it doles out to you is the result of exploiting numerous other humans and making their lives miserable. Every curse it throws your way stems from its natural exploitive nature that demands it hands out benefits to those above you on the heirarchy. Our very system of government is fucked lipstick hiding the true nature of this behemoth, making you root for the very elite that steer us toward human exploitation and planetary destruction. As long as you want to roll around in its excesses like pigs in mud, you gotta take the lashings inherent to the system. We have a good 50 years before the whole shithouse comes down (systematic failure from a combination of drought, resource depletion, climate change, and disparity of wealth), so why waste your time whining when you figure out this fucked game aint fair?

No one gets out alive.

I don't really mean to sound like a doomsayer; we're all going to shuffle off eventually. But the agricultural system does face an impending threat that is likely unavoidable, unless we rebuild it from scratch focusing on local resilience and independence (something inherently contradictory to the nature of the system in my opinion). So yeah, for some, its not going to be a cheery end. Its to those I suggest either 1) clue in and build your own resiliency (perhaps by dropping out) or 2) spend it while you got it and don't waste time with the daily 10 Minutes of Hate.

Figure out how to live or live it up, because an exploitation-subsidized life aint going to last forever.

Obama has made it clear that he is willing to deal. The American public knows this, and the Republicans have painted themselves in a corner.

This time, we made a few concessions, and thankfully, this time, we didn't give away the whole store this time, though I would still ask the GOP to give more.

The GOP throws yet another hissy-fit and rejects the deal.

Result: Obama and Democrats come across as the adults in the room, GOP gets blamed for the fiscal speed-bump and will start feeling extreme pain shortly.
