Hubby just told me that five of the US Hockey players are staying home

All from Minnesota. So that's something, but not enough. I hope that when the dust settles, they will realize that they were used. I hope that listening to him for two hours, during which there will not be one decent sentiment expressed and very little honesty will be an eye opener for them. If, as they claim, they want to keep politics out of it, even they will be able to see that trump is not going to do that tonight. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

bodychecks. Then, pull the jacket over his head and punch him in the face multiple times.

At least this is my idea for a comedy sketch a la SNL. I'm certainly not expecting nor wishing any of this upon him literally.

Besides, it's unrealistic. The men's hockey team members who will be attending have already shown themselves to be asskissing bootlickers, mostly.

And, unlike some of the others, whose teams are also scheduled to play, are putting their teams ahead of attending that shitshow. Good for them.

And it has served me well. But I agree that times like these make optimism much more difficult. I guess the fact that these players are so young allows me to cut them some slack.

is every bit as discouraging (perhaps more so?) than middle years and older.
It remains however - that there is still time, and chances for growth there. So we can retain that hope.

Kid's sport. Those rich kids grow up in repug suburbs. Gordie Howe grew up throwing hay bails in Saskatchewan. Now kids are in traveling leagues, hockey camps, with plenty of ice time, coaches recruiting the best players...prime territory for nurturing myopic aholes. Like Larkin who grew up in suburban Detroit.
