he could say "no mini-deal; grand bargain or nothing".

or he could set a deadline for a serious deal, e.g., by the state of the union address.


he's doing well politically on this because the republicans look like the difficult ones.

Tonight, or start all over in the morning - and every day the Republicans stall on negotiations is another day EVERYONE pays higher tax rates.

'ObamaCare' would then have a companion term to last through future administrations: The 'Obama Tax Cuts'. Nice.
