They're fear for years was a woman would win the Presidency. A black man winning took them by surprise and it spooked 'em.

(103,856 posts)they can do a lot of damage for the next 2 years (and probably beyond that if the senate races in'14 go the way they are expected to).
They have no legacy-dreams or even any plan to actually do any real work. They are the party that believes with every fiber of their being that republican is the natural "default" position for the nation, and any democrat who gets elected is but a place holder...a speed bump until a republican can re-take their spot.
They are patient, and resourceful, so they know how to logjam from a minority position too, so their "games" continue to plague us, as the rest of us tread water, in hopes that someday, someone will come along & help us..

The rethugs think they have a divine right to rule over everybody else--especially women and minorities--with an iron fist, with no respect for our humanity.

(51,076 posts)And it pisses me off to no end the way they treat the President. You can bet if he was one of them they'd be hanging on him like they were glued to his ass

The upshot: He pre-emptively spilled some details about tax cuts in an impending - BUT NOT YET FINAL deal.
He was careful to emphasize that Congress was CLOSE, but it wasn't DONE. Told people he'd be there through the New Year and to keep pressure on Congress.
Also said he'd hoped for a larger deal, but with the current Congress, it wasn't going to happen - drew some knowing chuckles from the audience. THAT is probably what pissed off GOP the most.
As a result, they'll do this in segments, focusing first on tax cuts for middle class, other tax credits, and UI extensions.
He basically dared them NOT to cut this first incremental deal.
Great pre-emptive move.

(16,199 posts)The Republicans have been living by the rule of "Majority of the Majority" for so long that they can't agree to anything that isn't 100% in their favor.
