GOP spending on the race, which includes television ads and text messaging mobilization, underscores Republicans hope that Crockett, a congresswoman from Dallas, defeats Texas state Rep. James Talarico in the primary Tuesday. Some Republican operatives and leaders believe Crockett would be easier to defeat in November.
I think Talarico is dangerous, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who is locked in a high-stakes Senate primary of his own against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, said last month. Hell probably beat Jasmine Crockett, and hes capable of raising a lot of money. And if you look at the head-to-head with Paxton, its tied.
A group with ties to longtime Republican operatives has been sending text messages to voters in recent days that tout Crocketts opposition to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, an issue that polling shows motivates the Democratic base. One Texan who regularly votes in Democratic primaries received the text messages, according to operatives working on the Texas races.

(40,872 posts)I realize people want to move up, but isn't being a House rep better than not being in Congress at all? I was really disappointed when Porter left the House at the same time as Schiff. I see democrats filled both seats, but still, Katie & her white board should have been a weekly thing that the DNC promoted along with their never ending pleas for money.

(12,922 posts)I love her, but sure wish she had taken this cycle to stump for other candidates and then run against Cruz. I'll be happy with whoever wins, but Talarico has been on my radar for years and is a unique voice -- a voice against Christian Nationalism at a time when Christian Nationalism poses an existential threat. I'm pulling for him and would not be surprised if it were true that Trumpublicans fear Talarico more than they fear Crockett.
Whether Cruz ends up "welcoming" Crockett or Talarico as the new Junior senator from Texas, his days are numbered as the primary "loser" goes after his seat next.

(5,172 posts)I dont like how everyone says that she should take a back seat and let James run unopposed. It seems dismissive of her qualifications.
Also: this is Texas. Its going to take a miracle for either candidate to win.

(1,487 posts)Youre smart to not donate any more. If youre looking for a good winnable candidate, focus on Peltola in Alaska. She has a better shot than either candidate does in Texas.

(25,539 posts)Also, Talarico has a religious background as a seminary student that might go over well in a general electio in Texas.
OTOH, could Black voters lose interest if Crockett does not win the primary?
I love Crockett. She has experience, smarts, courage, and a delightful way with words. We need her in government but can she win in a general election in a state like Texas?

(178,029 posts)While I have already voted for Talarico, I would be very happy to support Crockett if she is the nominee. Texas Democrats are blessed with two amazing persons running for this seat which is why the polling has been all over the place.

One or none of these polls got it right, I never seen no shit like this 🤷🏽♀️

Here is the latest average of the polling

These numbers are all within the margin of error and so I would not be surprised to see either candidate emerge as the nominee. Again, Texas Democrats are blessed with two amazing candidates and we will be fortunate to have either candidate be our nominee to run against hopefully Paxton.

(29,900 posts)It is still close either way but polls show her with a slight lead.
I don't buy that Republicans have a crystal ball that shows them doing better with Crockett in the race especially considering their analysis is likely racist based on how they view Crockett.
I think Crockett can do well considering the national mood of the electorate.
