Tonight I went to An Evening With Kamala Harris at the Fillmore in downtown Detroit.

I got lucky with the traffic and got there early. There was a group of around eight very loud protesters across the street. I think they were shouting about Gaza. There was a bomb-sniffing dog in front of the theater and cops everywhere. I stood in line for nearly an hour before I got in. It was supposed to start at 7:00, but didn't get started until almost 8:30 due to all the security. There must have been a long line behind me.

Kamala talked about the midterms and how important it is to get out the vote, among other things. The crowd was very enthusiastic. It was good, but I wish it would've lasted a little longer; it was only about an hour. Last month, I asked a friend if she wanted to go but she was worried about the weather (it was bad then; it was in the low 50s today, go figure). On Wednesday I decided to go by myself because I was afraid I would regret it if I didn't go. I'm glad I went.

When I think of what could have and should have been....

The Fillmore is a beautiful theater. It was originally built in 1925 and has obviously been upgraded and remodeled (and renamed) since then, but it doesn't have a public elevator. The steps going up to balcony were a little too much for me to handle (I got out of breath) and I had difficulty with the steps going up to and down from the seats. I discovered I'm at the age where, not only do people offer to help me get up and down the stairs, I gladly take it! If I ever go there again, I will make sure to get seats on the main floor.

about Gaza despite the fact that she's never had power over foreign policy.

Gaza was my second guess. I tried to ignore it even though they were very loud. I remember thinking why are they protesting her about that?

I changed my post. Thank you.
