Explosions in Dubai and Abu Dhabi Jolt Mideast Financial Hubs

(Bloomberg) — The twin United Arab Emirates’ hubs of Dubai and Abu Dhabi have transformed themselves into global financial centres built on a bedrock of safety, stability and proximity to deep pools of capital. Iran’s attacks on Saturday came as a jarring reminder of geography.

Hours after the US and Israel struck Iran, Tehran retaliated by targeting US military bases in the Persian Gulf. Missiles were intercepted in cities around the Middle East, including Doha and Abu Dhabi — where at least one person died from fallen debris. In neighboring Dubai, residents reported hearing blasts.

The UAE Ministry of Defense issued a swift statement, saying that its air defence systems dealt with the missiles. “All necessary measures are being taken to firmly confront any attempts to undermine the country’s security and stability. The safety of citizens, residents and visitors remains a top priority that cannot be compromised.”

Iran’s attacks on Saturday came after the US and Israel began striking targets across the Islamic Republic, with President Donald Trump urging Iranians to take over their government once the military campaign ends.

I doubt they know. Trump is assuming that Iranian's will overthrow their government. No one knows the answer to that. lostincalifornia 8 hrs ago #2

And then there's the drones. Clouds of drones. Iran is Russia's drone factory. As the drone flies, Dubai is a mere 100 miles from Iranian territory. Abu Dhabi only 150 miles. Doha, 160 miles. If this thing gets out of control, it's going to get real ugly.

And expensive. Every time a patriot battery fires a PAC-3 missile, that's $4M dollars please. That's the thing about modern warfare. The "cash register" goes wild! But since they are so expensive, there's only so many of them. It's not like they roll of the assembly line like bullets.

Also, Iran is a large country. Lots of places to stash stuff. And Iran has been planning for US and Israeli intervention since Jimmy Carter.

It should be noted that when we were attacked on 9/11, the majority of the American public, stood together, and I would assume that would be the likely scenario with the Iranian people, or any country.

Are safe for now. But there have been ongoing rounds of missiles and intercepts.

They are in Dubai.
