We had come up in here and they asked why we were chasing a five year old story, didn’t we have anything better to do. And they kind of threatened us, and we were able to leave, and that’s when we came up with something better,” said Kathy Barber, a co-organizer.

The memorial aims to serve as a wake-up call. Kunda expressed the need for further investigation, saying, “They need to get out here and start investigating.”

Gretchen Valencia, who attended the memorial, said, “There’s victims here on this property that absolutely never got a chance, and we want to be that chance for them and be their voice and let it be known, you know, it’s what this is all about. It’s disgusting. We’re outraged, and like you said love trumps hate.”

Organizers plan to hold another rally on March 21 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Rafael Ranch.
