Jim Jordan signs off on criminal referral for key Jan. 6 witness against Trump

https://www.rawstory.com/cassidy-hutchinson-jan-6-2675638878/

House Republicans have formally asked for criminal charges against a key witness against President Donald Trump in the congressional Jan. 6 probe.

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) made a criminal referral of former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson to the Department of Justice accusing her of lying to Congress when she testified that Trump was aware of the potential of violence on Jan. 6, 2021, after summoning his supporters to Washington, D.C., and continued riling them up with claims of election fraud, sources told CNN.

"Loudermilk has long attempted to reframe the public perception of the events at the Capitol, including by scrutinizing the House committee that investigated the Capitol riot and found Trump was 'directly responsible' for the riot," CNN reported. "Loudermilk’s referral was co-signed by House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, who chairs the committee under which Loudermilk is running a probe of January 6."

Hutchinson, now 29, was the top aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows at the end of Trump's first presidency, and she testified in summer 2022 before the House select committee created by then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi that she heard from others that Trump, now 79, had attempted to join his followers at the U.S. Capitol riot.

So far, the DOJ is batting zero in prosecutions of Trump’s enemies.

Everything is going so wrong for Trump that they have to keep trying to distract us.

Job losses, gas prices soaring, affordability declining, and another foreign war with no exit plan and this is what they think is important? Obviously, they need to distract the base from this #$$show, but I think they're gonna have to come up with something better than this.

Trump was at Mar-a-Lago watching Cassidy testify on television. He got enraged and threw a ketchup bottle at the wall.

Showing them things like exits. Probably where the J6 “tourists” idea came from. But I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.

in their vindictive weaponization of courts and government.

May this brave young woman have the support of friends and family in getting through this.

And may any and all jurues in this evil use of government for intimidation see through the BS and refuse to indict or convict the people who get targeted by the swampy slime.

The scum who try to indict and convict people that they consider enemies are doing it to intimidate others in the future from ever coming forward with evidence or testimony. They know that their attempts to bring charges against "enemies" will likely fail, but could have a deterrent effect on anyone else who might speak up.

If you have ever crossed Trump the DOJ or Congress is going to charge you. This term is the retribution tour. I doubt anything happens to her like every other person charged

Four years after the former White House aide delivered stunning revelations about Donald Trump, GOP lawmakers appear focused on bringing her down.

https://www.ms.now/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/republicans-reportedly-refer-cassidy-hutchinson-to-doj-over-jan-6-testimony

At the time, there didn’t appear to be any point to asking a failed committee to fail again, but it now appears the partisan exercise still has some scores to settle. CNN reported:

Republicans on Capitol Hill are asking the Justice Department to consider bringing criminal charges against Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide in President Donald Trump’s first administration who became a star congressional witness about the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, according to two sources familiar with recent developments.

GOP Rep. Barry Loudermilk made a criminal referral of Hutchinson to the Justice Department in recent days, the sources said. He accused Hutchinson of lying to Congress in her summer 2022 testimony when she alleged Trump was aware of the potential for violence on January 6, 2021, and forged ahead with his attempts to rile up his supporters
.

.....CNN’s report also followed similar reporting from 2024 about Loudermilk and his committee specifically focusing its energies on Hutchinson, a former aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. (Relatedly, Kash Patel, before the podcast personality became the FBI director, included Hutchinson on his notorious “government gangsters” enemies list.)

Based on the publicly available information, there’s no reason to believe Hutchinson, who delivered stunning Jan. 6 testimony nearly four years ago, did anything wrong. What’s more, there’s no reason to believe the criminal referral will amount to anything: In the last Congress, the same Republican-led panel asked the Justice Department to launch a criminal investigation into former House GOP Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney for foolish reasons that collapsed under scrutiny, and the referral was ignored.

But given the degree to which the Trump DOJ is (a) controlled by the president; and (b) determined to punish the president’s perceived political foes, it’s probably best not to dismiss these developments out of hand. Watch this space
