i hate when liberals pull shit like that. i know part of it is because its a sensitive topic for me but you'd think we would have less credentialism when the two worst presidents of the last 50 years went to fucking yale and wharton.

Markwayne Mullin is awful and corrupt for many reasons.
Not having a college degree is not one of them.
I know plenty of people W/O degrees who have more moral backbone, smarts, common sense, and compassion than at least half of Congress. Mullin isn't one, but not bc he did not graduate college.

(23,581 posts)because unlike an expert plumber, the head of DHS is not an expert at plumbing. But for some reason it's elitist to say that a plumber shouldn't be the head of the Department of Homeland Security.
This attitude that we don't need experts to fill jobs that require a specific expertise is part of why we're in the mess we're in right now. I don't see it as elitism, just common sense.

(37,981 posts)He also lacks a law enforcement at any level background. I'm going to be credentialist on this one.
I don't care who that offends. People need to stop pretending that in some jobs - especially this one - education and employment history matter.
Case in point? Department of Education.
If this guy makes it past the Senate - I'm going to Triple down on repealing the Homeland Security Act.
Repeal, Replace and Build Back Better.

(1,669 posts)Yes plumbing has nothing to do with DHS, but that's not saying he doesn't have a college degree and that's why he's unqualified.
I have 3 college degrees and I'm not qualified to lead DHS because I have no relevant experience. That's why Mullen is unqualified, not because he was a plumber before he ran for office. He'd be just as unqualified if he had a PhD in English literature and had no relevant experience.

(15,814 posts)It has nothing to do with his height or his college degrees. I don't like him because he's a hot head. Not good for DHS. We already have another one in DoD and look how that's turning out.

Have they seen the head of our Dept of Education?

(2,812 posts)any of the con's cabinet picks, that is a reflection on how bad his picks are, not that doing so is a good idea.
DHS is the third largest Cabiniet agency. Markwayne does not have any of the qualifications or experience that one should have to lead such a large branch of Government. He has only served in Government for less than three years and has zero knowledge or experience in any of the day to day operations of DHS.

(2,795 posts)But dictators don't want competence or experience. They want loyalty. And they want the appointee to be grateful for having been given the job, because the forever gratitude to dear leader feeds into even greater loyalty.

(24,771 posts)that would qualify him for this TOP position in government, it is not out of bounds to ask about his educational experience. But surprise! He doesn't have that either. Just a zero as far as I can see. Don't see why the college thing should be out of bounds. Far from finding horrible that liberals would ask about this, I find it way more offensive that liberals (or people claiming to be liberals) would tear each other up and navel gaze about mild criticism of markwayne. He's a big boy in line for a big job that he has NO QUALIFICATIONS for. If he can't stand the heat, he's welcome to exit the kitchen.

(1,574 posts)If so, I agree a degree is irrelevant.
I dont think he has either though. He has already proven hes a complete idiot otherwise. He definitely ranks up there with Ron Jonson and Tuberville.
