Is it any wonder how Republicans are rarely held accountable for their criminal activity?

(1,861 posts)It has been known to get things wrong at times. I think it's spot on here, though.
"There have been no formally recognized Democratic, interim, or permanent, FBI directors in the bureau's history. All officially appointed FBI directors, including acting/interim leaders, have been Republicans or independents, even when appointed by Democratic presidents.
Key Interim/Acting Leaders (Non-Democratic):
Andrew McCabe (Acting): Served May 9, 2017 August 2, 2017, following the firing of James Comey.
Thomas J. Pickard (Acting): Served June 25, 2001 September 4, 2001.
Floyd I. Clarke (Acting): Served July 19, 1993 September 1, 1993.
While some directors, such as James Comey, have been described as having Democratic roots before later identifying as Republicans or independents, the role has historically been filled by those aligned with the Republican party."
We just keep shooting ourselves in the foot trying to appear "bi-partisan."

Thomas J. Pickard
Adams was during Carter, and Pickard was during GW Bush.
It isn't a lot, only acting directors and for only two and a half months total duration. But it is non-zero, so it is a gotcha to be aware of when discussing this topic.

(1,861 posts)There were 2.
James B. Adams served as acting FBI Director for SEVEN WHOLE DAYS in 1978.
Thomas J Pickard was the acting FBI director for those 2 and 1/2 months before 9/11. Interesting timing there as he was replaced on Sept. 4, 2001.
So, for 53 years since Hoover died, the FBI has been led by a Democrat for less than 3 months.

(2,259 posts)Despite your party being the most consistent defiler of "Law" and having been the originator of the great majority of disorder in our country's history, you certainly could not ever allow a Democrat to run the FBI! Just think of the additional crimes that would be exposed.

Each and every appointment needs to be a partisan appointment.
The norms that Biden adhered to are over.

And why? Several reasons:
1) Republicans have been hammering the "Law & Order" brand forever and Democrats are easily bullied by that.
2) When Republicans control the Senate, they insist their advise&consent role is superior to the President's nomination role.
3) This is yet another example of how the Founders set the country up for minority rule by giving the rural states out-sized power .
The founders really had no interest in democracy. Their concept was much more like that of an expensive country club where everyone get s a vote but the people with old money make the decisions.
