(8,821 posts)at some development-related news conference in NJ. He was among a group of local officials and development partners for a hotel project. I was one of several newspaper reporters introduced to them and vice versa.
I don't recall speaking with him, but I got a chillingly bad vibe when we nodded to one another. A feeling that here was someone diseased of mind, body, personality. He seemed to emanate a kind of sickness, a wrongness that repelled me. I moved as far away from him in the room as possible.
I had of course heard of him as a publicity-hungry jerk in NYC. He was considered a joke back then.

(242 posts)Could definitely sense a lot of energy around his whole entourage but there was something definitely ominous about the vibe. Not a professional opinion, just the feeling I got...never forgot it. Probably around the 1990s?

(53,784 posts)as the "Black Widow" as we awaited the arrival of the Feds to pick her up. She'd knocked off a husband and I think a kid with some kind of poison. Compared to Trump and his cohorts, she was a downright sweet.

(13,230 posts)Was head of a cult I was in for short time in 1974, he preyed on people from bad family situations like mine and acted all nice until he wasn't. I guess you would say a wolf in sheep's clothing. I went to live on a goat farm with a bunch of hippy Jesus freaks in the mountains of southern OR, had met a friend at a concert who invited me. I was 18 naive and been sheltered my whole life, but grew up with a lot of fear from my brother.
At first it was fun until he started saying it was the last days, if we left we would go to hell...I was scared and by then brainwashed. It took my dad coming from CA with a gun threatening the guy to let me go, although at the time he just told me to go with my dad. Didn't find out truth till later. I sort of got deprogrammed by people slowly telling me the truth.
I learned from that experience not to really trust anyone, not so good in my relationships.
So I understand with sadness how a lot of people have been brainwashed into the maga thinking. We see the truth and wonder why they can't. It's because it is so twisted for them and their beliefs are strong. They have to get away from the influence of news, podcasts, online, friends, neighbors, leaders they hear daily to begin to open up.

(3,270 posts)or Stephen Miller, but my Mother-in-law was not to be discounted.I think she had a worse effect on my daughter, though, than she had on me. Hers was the most satisfying funeral I've ever been to.
