I do not think that information is coming from an insider in the US. It may come as a surprise to you that we are not the only country with satellites. Russia is using its satellites to map out our troops movements and positions and passing that to Iran.
As a matter of fact, not just Russia. There are a lot of private firms with that same info, some of them controlled by China for example :
