President Trump on Sunday threatened to not sign any bills into law until the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act is approved by the Senate, doubling down on his push to change voting requirements ahead of the midterm elections.
I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed, AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION GO FOR THE GOLD: MUST SHOW VOTER I.D. & PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP: NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS EXCEPT FOR MILITARY ILLNESS, DISABILITY , the president wrote in his Sunday morning Truth Social post.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment on whether the president will sign a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security amid the partial government shutdown.

(5,185 posts)Section. 7. All Bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with amendments as on other Bills. Every bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a law, be presented to the President of the United States; If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the objections at large on their journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the bill, it shall be sent, together with the objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a law. But in all such cases the votes of both houses shall be determined by yeas and nays, and the names of the persons voting for and against the bill shall be entered on the journal of each house respectively. If any bill shall not be returned by the President within ten days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the same shall be a law, in like manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their adjournment prevent its return, in which case it shall not be a law.

(6,399 posts)First, don't all states have ID requirements? Won't local officials decide what docs voters must bring to prove ID?
And if the bill passes and we can't mail in ballots, then we just have to go in person. In my heavily Trumpy rural area, all the Dems I know vote early in person while every Repug I know mails in their ballot -- so that could advantage Dems.
The only misery I foresee is if the bill requires hand counting of ballots. Results could take weeks in large states like Fla., which will make djt very unhappy...and that's a good thing. Recall he wants the outcome on election night.
We should be much more concerned that ICE will be at polls and/or djt will conjure up some bogus emergency that cancels the midterms -- and I think we must focus our energy on those possibilities.

(8,264 posts)He needs a supplemental for the Iran war. I would suggest we not pass it. However if it gets through anyway, it is good for him to refuse to sign it. Pocket Veto it by all means.
