"The Iran conflict has ignited a massive surge in demand for nuclear-proof bunkers across America, with even top Trump administration officials securing their own underground fortresses amid whispers of World War Three.
"As The Telegraph reports, Ron Hubbard, owner of Atlas Survival Shelters, reports being 'inundated with calls' since the conflict erupted, with enquiries spiking 'tenfold.'

(11,711 posts)If you think this report is false or even implausible, I'm more than open to hearing why (preferably with sources).
Hopefully we all know how to vet a source by now and how to discount or credit stories that seem for or against the self-interests or bias of the source. In this case, it seems to me that most people at both sides of the spectrum are skeptical of this war and worried about where it could lead us.
We've also seen a number of stories labelled by one side or the other as "conspiracy theories" turn out to be partly or wholley true. Do I believe in "Pizzagate"? No. Do I believe that the Covid pandemic began with a lab leak? Sure do.
I also find it invaluable to get some insight into what people from other bubbles are thinking, beng told, and telling each other.
Zerohedge is a hodge-podge. BUT it's frequented by investors who care very much about what's really going on in the world, to the extent it might affect their investments. So yeah, there are some crazy screeds, and even more by way of political interpretations that differ from yours or mine; but I also find a lot of practical, detailed info there about Wall St. activities & regulation and a great many other matters that affect our welfare.
And last but far from least, none of the leaders in any of our bubbles usually volunteer info about their own corruption or mistakes, so you usually do have to go to "the other side" (and to alternative media) to get a reasonably complete picture.
A system that throttles the free flow of info and ideas by excluding sources from competing p.o.v.'s degrades its own computational IQ.

(22,890 posts)That story was planted to influence investors, rather than inform them.
Since then, Trump has announced the war could be over soon, goosing the market.
Somebody is making a killing via market manipulation.

Last year, I got invited to a super-deluxe private resort to deliver a keynote speech to what I assumed would be a hundred or so investment bankers. It was by far the largest fee I had ever been offered for a talk about half my annual professors salary all to deliver some insight on the subject of the future of technology.
Ive never liked talking about the future. The Q&A sessions always end up more like parlor games, where Im asked to opine on the latest technology buzzwords as if they were ticker symbols for potential investments: blockchain, 3D printing, CRISPR. The audiences are rarely interested in learning about these technologies or their potential impacts beyond the binary choice of whether or not to invest in them. But money talks, so I took the gig.
After I arrived, I was ushered into what I thought was the green room. But instead of being wired with a microphone or taken to a stage, I just sat there at a plain round table as my audience was brought to me: five super-wealthy guys yes, all men from the upper echelon of the hedge fund world. After a bit of small talk, I
They started out innocuously enough. Ethereum or bitcoin? Is quantum computing a real thing? Slowly but surely, however, they edged into their real topics of concern.
Which region will be less impacted by the coming climate crisis: New Zealand or Alaska? Is Google really building Ray Kurzweil a home for his brain, and will his consciousness live through the transition, or will it die and be reborn as a whole new one? Finally, the CEO of a brokerage house explained that he had nearly completed building his own underground bunker system and asked, How do I maintain authority over my security force after the event?
For all their wealth and power, they dont believe they can affect the future.
Continues, even if we don't get to, with a nice paywall ...
