The point of this is muddled
Work sucks and is boring - we already know that
Life goes on around you while you have to clock in - we already know that
But, 2 grand a day? - I know nothing about that

However, I am glad for more time for activism.

That college grad should not have accepted the first offer. And I too am glad to be retired.

in IT we were always under layoff culture - I'll never forget a software engineer saying if he was laid off he would "just become a truck driver" - we all howled, I told him, dude, you can't even stay awake on a two hour conference call.......truck driving is hard work!

You get sleepy, take 2 steps and you are in bed.
I didn't drive sleepy. Too many bad things can happen.

I turn 74 this month, and the thought of retirement terrifies me. What would I do? Go on cruises and watch TV?

I’m now in Barcelona,Spain. Next week, have stuff to do in France, Holland, Belgium and northern Germany. Sure, there’s some stress at times, but trade this gig for a couch? A German colleague, older than I am, who is in my line of work (and, granted, we are not numerous) said retirement for us comes when the last nail is hammered into the coffin. I work for the same two guys I worked for when I started 50 years ago. You don’t get to be a billionaire doing this job, but no one would have the time to spend it anyway. The pay is more than enough if you’re not a compulsive show-off—and don’t live in Germany!!—and no one gives you a hard time if the six weeks paid vacation isn’t enough, and you want an extra week. There’s travel to cool places, work with cool people (gotta watch out for organized crime, but they’re everywhere anyway), stay in nice places and eat whatever food you want. I’m supposed to trade that for what? Re-runs of Hawai’i 5-0? My health will give out soon enough for that. In the meantime, I’ll keep my job, thanks all the same.
