That's why the USA was so revolutionary. No more one-up, one-down sense of being in theory. In addition to dumping kings and queens, the aristocracy was tossed. Merit, for white male landowners, was what would distinguish one from another. In practice, it took about 200 years to get things so all are equal under law.
Yet, it took trump and MAGA NAZIs less than two terms to gut the Voting Rights Act, the Equal Opportunity Employment Act, Affirmative Action, DEI initiatives, etc., throughout the government, nation and even private businesses and universities. All gone.
Where was the public outrage? TV must've missed it.
Regardless, those who don't believe all people are equal under the law are un-American.
