MarkWayne's mother didn't know which of her 2 cousins were his father, so she named him after both.

"MarkWayne's mother didn't know which of her 2 cousins were his father, so she named him after both."

From bookface, along with. "Mar'kwayne is the anglicization of an old, old Cherokee name that means "Born from Brother and Sister."

Obviously satire, but hilarious.

The claim that "Mar'kwayne is the anglicization of an old, old Cherokee name that means 'Born from Brother and Sister'" is a popular online commentary or joke regarding U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin, often surfacing in social media discussions, specifically on Facebook and Threads, following his political, MMA, or business-related news
.
Key Aspects of the Claim:

Context: The phrase is often used as a humorous, satirical, or critical, remark about the origin of his first name, which is sometimes interpreted as a combination of "Mark" and "Wayne".
Origin: The phrase appeared in social media posts as early as March 2026, often in the context of discussions regarding his background and political appointments.
Cherokee Identity: Senator Markwayne Mullin is an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation. However, this specific interpretation of his name ("Born from Brother and Sister&quot appears to be a sarcastic or colloquial meme or commentary rather than a recognized historical or linguistic fact from Cherokee culture.

The phrase is widely used as a "meme" or social media commentary, often appearing in the comment sections of posts discussing Markwayne Mullin's career and background.

the edit to the OP to add anything about satire was 10 minutes after my post (check the history)

So your argument is wasted, too.

certificate, intending to later shorten his name to one of the two, but never did.

In front of us, a Mullin cousin is dealing with a pink-strawberry-clad toddler who has dumped Dr. Pepper and then nacho cheese down her blouse. Before I leave, I have to ask about the name, so I do. Mullin smiles. He has two uncles, he says, Mark and Wayne, and they couldn’t decide whose name would come first — he pulls out his phone, which he keeps unsubtly trying to lose, to show me a picture of them — and after his mom put both names on the birth certificate, she meant to go back and pick one over the other, but never did. “I hated that,” he says, “because I was in trouble so often as a kid in school, everyone knew when my name was on the loudspeaker. And that made me make more trouble. I swear if I hadn’t married Christie, I’d be in prison. We’ve gotta make sure more people don’t face that. That means jobs. That means making sure chickens and marijuana aren’t the big employers here.”
