Just a week after Sen. John Fetterman helped Republicans block a war powers resolution intended to halt President Donald Trump and Israels assault on Iran, the Pennsylvania Democrat again bucked his own party on Wednesday by not signing on to a letter calling for a probe into an apparent US bombing of a girls school in the Iranian city Minab that killed around 175 people, mostly young children.
As with the unsuccessful resolution from Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Fetterman was the only member of the Senate Democratic Caucuswhich includes Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Angus King (I-Maine)who didnt endorse the letter to US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Fetterman has signaled support for Operation Epic Fury and promoted Trumps narrative that its motivated by preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. During a Tuesday appearance on Newsmax, he claimed that negotiating treaties and coordinating with regional allies never worked, and wondered why Democrats cant agree whats happened is a very, very positive development for world peace.

(35,047 posts)I haven't been following his situation closely, but I've seen the headlines.
Was he always like this and people were blind to it?
Or did he trick voters to get elected?
Or was he the best out of two bad options?
Or did he change following his brain injury?
Is he potentially being blackmailed?

(2,857 posts)He doesn't seem up-to-date on the daily changing current events.
I think he might just be hanging out with Dave McCormick and other Republicans when he's working.

(10,953 posts)He was the progressive darling until he went full MAGA. Now you can't find anybody who will admit voting for him.

We don't need another moderate v progressive civil war, we need to be united.

(5,828 posts)A similar thing happened to one of my aunts--pre-stroke she was a sweet little old lady and afterward she was mean as a snake, snapping at people, yelling at my uncle who was in the early stages of Alzheimer's at the time, the whole bit. They had to put her on antidepressants (I think) to get her close to what her personality used to be, and even then she was never quite the same.

(40,249 posts)It's clearly obvious he has NO competent consultants or advisors. Everyone just lets him live in his own world and run wild like Trump. With limited input, and stroke-compromised mental ability, maybe he sees himself as a "maverik-y" Trump style leader.

(41,270 posts)The Repukes don't want him, that's for sure. The Democrats in Pennsylvania are fed up and we're hoping he resigns. Fetterman's advisors and aides have mostly quit, I don't know who's working for him now. Maybe nobody.
I did vote for Fetterman in 2022 but I won't do it again. I think Chump is blackmailing him, maybe threatening to deport his wife who is a naturalized citizen. (?)

(40,249 posts)You're probably right. I've just found it interesting the way he started copying Trump. Barking at reporters, defensive, bashing "the left."

(113,691 posts)any more than he could Arab Sunni Muslims (Palestinians). So, John, does that extend to American children of those with whom you have major disagreements, i.e., disdain for their ethnicity or religion, as well?
Sorry, (I guess), but I think he is very much acting as though he has no filter for what were likely repressed attitudes all along.--much like those with dementia, traumatic or other brain injury (his stroke, for instance), or rare medication-induced issues-- can manifest.

(4,957 posts)This guy is so callous and bloodthirsty.
You have to have some kind of mental deficiency to be that nonchalant about killing children. About killing anyone really.
Except fascists of course.

(45,925 posts)would remember this vis a vis Platner in Maine. They are doing the same thing they did with Fetterman: ignoring the red flags because the guy is saying what they want to hear.

(12,967 posts)Saw him roaming around a young girls school ground in his hoodie and shorts, would ya call the police and alert of a pedi stalking the young girls.
He certainly fully supports the pedi regime.
He seems about as Democratic as Tulsi Gabbert was when running for office in Hawaii.
The repubs have been planting their own into democratic offices. Ask Charlotte voters in NC.
They are evil and determined to own the world, at any cost.

Pity he can't be recalled - run as a Democrat. serve as a Republican.
To be fair and kind, it could stem from his stroke and hospitalization for depression, but still...

(445 posts)I expect the F-Man to change parties to try to help Republicans hold the majority. He is MAGA now and, apparently, a full tilt supporter of Trump.
His wife was very active, honest, articulate and driven during his earlier health struggles and during his attempts to overcome them while campaigning.
Is she speaking out against his 180 degree changes? Does she offer an explanation? I worry about her.
