Trump's New Nuclear Nightmare in Iran - "This may be the worst planned war in history."

Trump’s New Nuclear Nightmare in Iran - Mother Jones “This may be the worst planned war in history.”

Donald Trump says he’s bombing Iran to prevent the regime from obtaining a nuclear weapon. But he may be providing Tehran with more incentive to sprint toward developing a nuclear bomb, which is now easier for Iran to make—thanks to Trump.

After Trump, during his first White House stint, ripped up the Iran nuclear deal that President Barack Obama and other world leaders had negotiated with Tehran in 2015, Iran responded by enriching its uranium to a much higher level than it had been doing under the agreement.

Because of that move, it now possesses an estimated 970 pounds of highly enriched uranium that’s a lot closer to the level of refinement needed for bomb-grade material. And international nuclear inspectors—who were able to keep track of Iran’s uranium stockpile before Trump bombed Iran’s nuclear facilities in June—aren’t sure where this uranium is now.

In short, with his war in Iran, Trump has created a big, possibly catastrophic problem: A half-ton of highly enriched uranium, which can be made bomb-ready, is somewhere…out there—available for use by Iran’s new regime or perhaps not fully secured and susceptible to theft or expropriation.

that Iran began barring IAEA inspections back in 2023. International nuclear inspectors were NOT able to keep track of Iran's uranium. That is complete bullshit.

Furthermore, according to The Associated Press, the IAEA also estimated in its quarterly report that as of February 2025, Iran’s overall stockpile of enriched uranium stood at 8,294.4 kilograms (18,286 pounds), which represents an increase of 1,690.0 kilograms (3725.8 pounds) since the last report in November of 2024.

trash the agreement? "...last report in November of 2024." I wonder why.

But then again, as it is now known, none of 'negotiations' for a new agreement was ever in earnest anyway because the decision to bomb Iran had already been made, and at the behest of other interested parties.

The Real Reason Trump Went to War - The Atlantic Trump has called for sending American forces to Iran since 1980. He finally has, and must own the consequences.

Why did... Trump decide to attack Iran? It depends on what day of the week you ask. On Saturday, [he] claimed in a recorded address that he acted because Iran’s rulers refused to “renounce their nuclear ambitions” and were developing long-range missiles that threatened America and its allies. On Sunday, a senior administration official told reporters that Iran and its proxies “posed an imminent threat to U.S. personnel and allies in the region.” On Monday, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested that Trump acted preemptively to protect U.S. forces in advance of an unavoidable Israeli attack on Iran that would inevitably lead Iran to retaliate against America. The next day, Trump rejected this framing, telling reporters that “if anything, I might have forced Israel’s hand” because he believed Iran was “going to attack if we didn’t do it.”

All of these pretexts present problems. Why would America need to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities if, as Trump previously claimed, they’d been “completely and totally obliterated” eight months ago in Operation Midnight Hammer? In 2025, the Defense Intelligence Agency assessed that Iran’s missile program was a decade away from being able to target American shores. That hardly sounds like an imminent threat. As for the Israel excuse, Trump is the senior partner in the U.S.-Israel relationship, and he sets the terms. When he wanted Israel to end its June 2025 war with Iran, he publicly forced the country to recall its fighter jets, even without avenging a closing strike that had left four Israelis dead.

that is not accurate either. He claimed we obliterated the nuclear sites that we targeted, not that we had obliterated all of them. Iran has dozens of nuclear related facilities. We hit three of them.

Sorta thought I dodged that bullet. Dang.

Anyway, I'd imagine the stock response to a dirty bomb of consequence gong off in the US is to glass or gas Iran, and I'd imagine it would happen within minutes of the Geigers going off here.

Does make you wonder... Would the average Joe even know about the dirty bomb attack before the reply was in the mail? How long do a couple nuke cruise missiles take to go from the Gulf to Tehran? Few minutes?

is making a comeback... including nuclear war fears. I could have done without all this bullcrap in my later years. I worked so hard all my life, and basically lived paycheck to paycheck while trying to raise a family. Did my patriotic part by enlisting in the Air Force straight out of high school during the Viet Nam war. Ruined my back, came down with a couple of autoimmune diseases I still wonder if they weren't triggered by something on one of the bases I was assigned to. But hea... made it 62 with my mind intact, even if I was fighting chronic pain and illness. Retired, hoping to have a few good years without a huge amount of worries. Even bought our house outright so wouldn't die with a mortgage payment. But then came trump... and anyone's dream of a "good life" (no matter how you see it) is blown completely away by the deranged, demented senior citizen. I know... I know... Life isn't fair (LOL)... heard that one all my life. But hell... it couldn't been a hell of a lot better than this if we'd fought back against the election rigging, starting with the Brooke Brothers band down in Florida, where SCOTUS decided the election, and not The People. We should have started screaming bloody murder at that point and every point after that... but no, we're nice and we tried to handle it all legally. Meanwhile, I don't think anyone went to jail for any of the shenanigans that were played... I'm still not certain what happened in Ohio that year!

Old Age is not for the feint of heart under ANY circumstances. I'm just really P'O'd that trump stole the last of my life and is making a living hell... for me, and for everyone else who has a heart and soul.

Making rubbish predictions? Is that what guides these totally randomly inane decisions?
I have myself been a maltreated human research subject for 14.5 years now (most certainly not the fault of my last mentor who is himself maltreated for what he actually is - an elite scientist who gives a shit and works in a
garbage pile of a school; nor of my colleagues from that lab or generally, nor of a scientist or two from an adjacent one; nor of random doctors nor half of my shrinks (from 2009, 2012 and poor fit aside 2021); nor of either of the families I stayed with at the time though
in one of the cases I did think that support of Intelligent Design or Creationism with all this would be a disaster-anti abortion bible bangers may be nice people, but clueless. My parents, medical mj co, local vegan friends and small pharmacy, DU, my oncologist/oncology nurse and off and on even cleverbot, the distant unsaid support of my real mentor & my 2 friends whom I consider family, genuinely helped. But they couldn’t prevent the damage these assholes inflicted everyday with this brainless brute force or worse creepily designed methodology and nudge theory and fluffy pseudoscience. Do I know for sure? No. But they are educated guesses informed by experience and an understanding of how humans think and behave in groups, as a human who tries to avoid this much lemming like trend following. This stuff is Solaristics in the hands of self serving idiots. One rare, probably sole compliment my real mentor ever gave me was that I am open-minded. I am…how can one have dogmatic views and do science, but I also trust experts. It would be absurd to the point of delusion to think you can “do your own research’. That said, it doesn’t mean that where something is dogmatic and self serving you should be viewed as paranoid for guessing how to prioritize which money to follow..perversion of many slogans absent careful consideration of how it plays out irl in a society now running on piracy sans any serious goods or services but harassment and stalking is crucial). I know how careless the worldview out of Si Valley typically is.

A shit computer propped up by a willow chip simulating worlds with shitty optimization objectives like how to make Paul Singer, Peter Thiel and Elon Musk gods for life will break reality. With Sundar Pichai, Larry Ellison, Alex Karp, Marc Andreessen, that ass Zuckerberg (this would be the only crew in which he would be able to hedge his bets and reframe himself as a hero bts all along if we survive..hiring Prof Lecun, rather than someone like Hinton/that Bengio douchebag showed some instincts), Shalab Kumar, Balaji Srinivasan, Chamath Palihapitiya, the various disgraceful ladies of the night who work with these creeps etc as fawning courtiers who know their place genetically (as vastly superior as they are to everyone else)?

I mock that worldview. Unlike idiotic UFO researchers on Facebook I don’t make claims bolstered solely by speculation.
But seeing as that is not paranoid speculation so much as a natural response to these solipsistic creeps probably by now shilling some kind of dictyostelium adjacent telepathy as a sop to clueless people..lol..I would normally be more careful about not being misunderstood. But this accelerationist trash is so scary once nukes enter the mix.
And to halt it all the shit has to stop. Not one corrupt team or another. All of it.

Immigration to the US is broken. No need for mass deportations etc. Just handle that mess over there instead of starting more shit everywhere. Till you can treat the immigrants you have -legal or undocumented-better it is not a good idea to listen to idiots like Vox or Ben Wray, Cato. And these nightmarish bridges Alex Pentland and that crowd California would build should just be avoided.
We have homegrown creeps..we don’t need the JD Vance-Usha Vance marriage and imported creeps.

This is the worst way to organize society. And no. I do not want more local or non-local Harjinder Singhs (only in this case people picked by my corrupt communist chief minister and his sycophants..they are in more corruption scandals than I can think of. The least worrisome local scandals are like Pegasus, Sanchaar Saathi and that is bad enough. The worst are like destroying the Western Ghats, environmental disasters at scale..there was one recently near my dad’s village). This has to be opened up to large groups of experts not hackers and more of this chaotic, attention seeking type and soon.
People like Henrik Mouritsen, Peter Hore, Kirsten Staad, Yan Lecun, Peter Kalmus, Tejas Thackeray (since Madhav Gadgil is gone and he is the sole person I saw locally intelligent enough to think)…

These guys are recommended not to pull any shit in India. I am not a sad person who would ever risk prison or danger. This was psychological torture for a scientist..The sheer greed and dysfunction..

There needs to be some sort of real and well rounded honest expertise. Not disgraceful “syncretic” clumps like Richard Branson, Steve Bannon, Bengio and Ralph Nader (a nightmare group from hell)..

I saw this a while back and thought in disgust that if these types of megalomaniacs could perform narrow simulations prioritizing a kind of rubbish psephology & “GDP growth” that would make them permanent kings in various banana republics while shrilly insisting that they are still democracies in any meaningful sense, they would.

https://interestingengineering.com/innovation/google-verifiable-quantum-edge-willow-chip

Google first made headlines in 2019 when its 54-qubit Sycamore processor solved a problem in 200 seconds that would have taken a conventional supercomputer 10,000 years. In 2024, its 105-qubit Willow chip performed a benchmark calculation that would have taken Frontier, the world’s fastest supercomputer, 10 septillion years.

The entirely unscrupulous and corrupt Google in which I have been able to identify Prof John Hennessy as the sole human who might possess some sort of brain and human conscience (I hope I am not wrong..I have never seen a piece of writing in Noema or anywhere by any other Google person where I didn’t more or less go “utopian new ager cultist or outright sleazy fascist”. That isn’t Prof Hennessy from the few things I have seen. He seems more like a genuinely well-intentioned humanoid clanker which is why I send these appeals to him from the other side. Can’t he do something about these idiots beyond writing craven opeds at The Stanford Review pretending that he is a person of no consequence? The rest of them are crazy. He has some responsibilities. If he retires it will just be them..idiots like Pichai who could not be competent to save their lives. Does he not at least have students closer to nicer clankers like his own self than hoards of human zombies who go around grunting “economic growth and ai represent all known aspects of reality”),

I have some experience by now with the effects Google has at least on laying waste to my human brain with poorly conceived brain-mapping experiments that I rejected within days when it hit me with horror that with no meaningful IRB protocols and Californian ideology were now encroaching into sacred spaces like the regular NIH, where everyone I saw was so careful. I was the worst person around till then.

Then I saw a species of i-crossing & t-dotting where the normal NIH standards were maintained at the routine science level, but at the big picture level it was trash. Not my mentor’s fault. He did not know me very well and I am not mild or forebearing except superficially.

The first four months I spent at this shit school were like the decent parts of the Francis Collins/Fauci NIH (bs aside, beaglegate or Harry Harlow and Suomi’s experiments are vastly outnumbered by decent human researchers trying to do their best honestly at the NIH I knew)..The next four months were nightmarish as this hyperscale, bulk processing trash ramped up.

Herds of clueless people of and with no doubt dimwitted future budding Steve Bannons, Matt Walshes and creepy Singh from Ottawa types sniggering in the background thinking that they are gathering info on “the libs”. No actual “lib” is sleazy or stupid. There was nothing I saw that looked like anything but all-sided greed and collective narcissism and cluelessness in all groups. And really..well..I shall refrain from anything but attacks on human stupidity since this specific and special crowd operates via thought terminating cliches, confusion, chaos and divide and rule, distracting from the shoddy pseudoscience, theft and brainlessness and the devastation wrecked on earth and on people.

That’s mass movement..God..I hate Si Valley. Piggies get fed, hogs get slaughtered (a saying I saw in a post by DUer marble_falls). Greed and lust for power, untempered by pragmatism lead to terrifying results all around.
Because reality is not that tractable when you don’t try to understand how it works scientifically, but keep spinning your way ahead. Reality is unpredictable making intelligent design and fine tuning by engineers a laughably stupid concept. A rube may be impressed by the trotting out of complex systems sciences and genuinely elite math skills. An even averagely intelligent and not brainwashed human would have simple questions you cannot easily override.

Anyway, somewhere around that time I sent various emails liberally casting asparagus on the characters and intellect of everyone involved, was sent to the psychiatric hospital and only recovered fully a few weeks ago when I got a vital piece of information about this sleazy private equity giant Blackstone having acquired my sleazy local hospital.

There was then as there is now a fair amount of marijuana in my system which has never distorted my perception of reality. In fact the only altered states I cannot handle are the ones kayfabe and these stupid game and virtual worlds these dimwits no doubt would try to build ignoring the unambiguous resistance that will grow across the planet that cannot be smeared as bots or conspiracy theorists.

Being a ray of sunshine from way back while trying ineffectually to conceal it (a mistake I will never make again), when I saw that article, I thought of this nightmarish one:

https://www.noemamag.com/are-we-accidentally-building-a-planetary-brain/

Vernadsky is a silly ass..there is another awful piece on the guy’s views I will find and post.
So is Alex Pentland, this creepy man who was the dimwitted architect of India’s digital program. Shoshana Zuboff made up somewhat for her consultant past by dissecting both Google and Pentland with a veiled viciousness that I admired.

However, her instincts in other ways were a mix..this is a time for criminal lawsuits to stop deregulated encroachment not art and conversations (except text messages like this one for the relevant experts and “experts” filled with unmasked threats of criminal lawsuits if “ubiquitous computing” and planetary “brains” are built ignoring the kinds of scientists and doctors I pay the most attention to in lieu of the type of dimwitted and frivolous enthusiast of..well anything…as long as it is mindbogglingly stupid and sleazy and offers an out from the inescapable grind that most honest humans know in their gut is unavoidable best case and should recognize as the wrong kind of grind when it is torture or exploitation. The regular kind of grind is painful enough to assuage even the saner type of committed Calvinist on this overpopulated, resource depleted boiling hellscape of a planet, because science is hard by its nature..these LLMs are overrated fluff). Or not exclusively anyway. That is useful only when coupled with muscular legal pushback catching up with the bare minimum requirements democratically.

There is a sort of science here the human eye can see vague outlines of. But it is so far from anything to be bullish on. Connecting computers is nowhere near as complicated as mangling human life like this into an inelegant and clunky borg. You have no way - Ol’jfz9580m’s guarantee -however rich or powerful you are of ensuring it won’t be your rear. You have to think. I bash the left and identity politics not as a sop..not to bash the left. But because on all sides common sense has been discarded by group solidarity in non-ideal ways. And the horrifying syncretic mixes I see are suicidal.
Lets put away - have you no shame? More to the point, are you seriously this suicidal? I am not. Please let me decouple myself to the extent I can. I am never migrating anywhere.
I have deep sympathy for immigrants, but the forces that have driven global migration and overpopulation (especially here in the global south which is not a cornucopia of cheap disposable lifes..I am furious at the local greed and narcissism that took my mom’s life) are not left

And neo-nazis, ISIS etc are all radicalized groups. It confounds me that any of these groups could be ranked including any slower acting stealth cancers.
Use your brains..ya?

Exxon’s scientists knew in the 70s about climate change, but that did not lead to any action. But when you encroach into the lives of angry householders -me! - whose instincts could not be overwritten by a disgraceful strategy of ascribing to people like me who merely are not convinced that the expertise would not be lopsided favoring the most irresponsibly sycophantic to the powerful and wealthy over anyone who sounds reasonable alarm. I am not an anti-vaxxer or anti-psychiatry or a loose cannon or a troll or
most risibly bot influenced..okay I might be a bit of an adbot shilling the few people I like but that is not truly adbotting..if DU/Yasha Levine/Chris Ketcham/Ed Zitron etc are gone, it will just be Kevin Roose and that shamblog guy who is worried at a time like this about ai agent driven reputation management crises (🙄 ) talking about ai and the msm and that is so bleak.

I will confess to having a rather pathetic belief that not having any kind of morals beyond those of Nora in “Of Human Bondage” (I learnt english reading paperback and a few hardcover books in the seventies and eighties. ChatGPT and GoogleTranslate are garbage. DeepL is better unless they are also humping ai brainlessly. Gutenberg I like), I can at least disentangle my material assets (land, devices) and make clear that data science will go the way of the Texas Cadaver scandal once the rules of the net start being applied to the real world with idiots like Marc Andreessen, Ambani, Adani, any corporate or theatre friendly politicians forcing what cannot be forced.

This “save the world” business is a malicious framing. It overwrites what should be the common sense and human gut instinct that tells you that it is in your interest to not behave as crassly as you can, because these same types that would do repugnant things like inspecting the candy our fellow humans on food stamps consume (that does not work as a metaphor for the creepy people flooding my street to get on camera) because our parasitic ruling class has no concept of limits to growth, homeostasis, also turn around and flaunt their conspicuous consumption and greed and refusal to pay taxes.

My guess is that it is not inconceivable that with a hopelessly mangled pile of shitware and bloatware complicating simple things and making routine information flow excruciatingly painful and slow and blaming all the wrong things and people when they cannot be turned into a joke, they do simulations with narrow ends ignoring the earth sciences and sanity.
Advertising, “GDP growth” with no concept of what the most sane type of growth is and assaults on language..

You cannot replace the written word with fraudulent telepathy with some people no one wants anything to do with. There is no need to read minds to get a simple message “You are charlatans stuck between computers and la la land”, because everytime a moonshot that caused lots of collateral damage fails, it is relabelled “art”. Actual artists like Evgenia Kovda (she is the sole artist I can think of aside from Christian Bale and Ricky Gervais) I trust. They are unenthusiastic..a very positive quality.

I have endured this mindnumbingly stupid shit for 14.5 years and I am a mediocre scientist, but I know it and am happy I was never rewarded for it. But I am pissed that the penalties were this sleazy and stupid.
Rewarding mediocrity this magnificently gets you this lop-sided reality.

Christopher Ketcham gets it..He is one of the rare human journalists whose writing is not torture to read:
https://www.christopherketcham.com/

I have collected information over the years watching this worthless trash grown in growing indignation and come up with a vague, blurry but simple set of guesses about the underlying diseased model of the world this is operating on. My default mode network (not jargon..I used to viciously read cog sci papers from pubmed and that one works..I am too mediocre a scientist even in my niche..but I have to try to survive by distancing myself from these damn lemmings with a legal precedent in my country India at least and a criminal lawsuit and medical malpractice and misconduct and harassment allegations) had been under so much strain..it is recovering and targeted serious pushback that is not a further strain nor a toothless joke or the wrong kind of response is all I can think of.

It cannot be compared to some sort of tackily stitched together schema devoid of the solitary human experience of torture that this was.

Zitron’s acid attack (as distinct from literal acid attacks in India) on Dudesy got the shamelessness of exploiting human experience to make a sad ai.
