(2,944 posts)you should go after Gov. Josh Shapiro for exhibiting an embarrassing lack of insight for agreeing to be on his show. It was obviously his decision to do so, he needs to know the consequences. Punch up, not down!
It's a live show, surely one with such a way with words could convince him to immediately cancel tonight's appearance before it's too late. Think of the bragging rights!
Here's his contact information:
● Call the Governor's Office: 717-787-2500
● Text the Governor: 717-788-8990
Go for it!

(18,028 posts)what's wrong with that?
I know I do, so instead of accusing a long time member of trolling, maybe it was better if you didn't say anything.

(489 posts)That Mahr is a MAGA proponent the OP continues to insist on stirring that pot. To the point that it feels very troll-ish. It feels divisive and agitative. Like trolling.
I could certainly be wrong, but that's my take.

(10,944 posts)The OP is a valued long-term member who has posted this stuff for years.
While I can appreciate newer people hopping in and deciding they're going to tell adults how it's going to be with their media consumption, I'm going to assume we are all adults. If I don't like something, I either ignore it or filter it out.
And there is a filter on DU! Under "My DU" there is a feature called "Trash Can". You can just put "Maher" as the keyword, and poof, one never need worry about what other television shows people are watching again.
Unless the object of the exercise is to control and dictate what people view and try to bully them out of it. Much like evangelicals monitoring what others do with their eyeballs.
But surely that would never happen in a liberal space.

(106,077 posts)See reply #18. He is not a "ridiculousness of both fringes" guy - he's attacking Kamala Harris for taking the mainstream (for both Democrats, and for Americans) view of opposing the attack on Iran. That makes him MAGA.

(4,959 posts)But man, hes become such an insufferable douchebag over the past few years with his right wing culture war bullshit that hes unwatchable.
He doesnt focus on the things that matter anymore. Hes doing the work of the ruling class fascists and passing that off as the normal opinion.
I cant give him the views anymore.

(10,944 posts)I had no idea there was a Josh Shapiro interview until now. And as I see him as a bright point in our party, I want to see it.
I caught last week's interview with Annabelle Gurwitch, author of "The End of My Life is Killing Me: The Unexpected Joys of a Cancer Slacker"
I'm currently aiming to be an oncology NP with school, so I was glad to see her and have since picked up the book.

(13,239 posts)I feel dems have to be careful that anger towards people who are struggling and making mistakes could backfire and send the people in question Bill Maher and Fetterman further to the right.
I think Bill is fearful Trump will cancel his show and Fetterman has issues since his stroke. While I dont agree with things they have said or done by completely trashing them we are handing them to the other side.

(106,077 posts)He's 69. He could just be a liberal, stop sucking up to Trump, and see what happens. It's what the honorable talk-show hosts are doing - and they're younger, with more of their career ahead of them. It's not the end of the world if HBO succumbs to pressure and bins the show. He could go on substack, if he thought he was censoring himself at HBO. It works for Paul Krugman.
But I don't think he's "fearful". I think he genuinely supports Trump's attacks on Iran, and kidnapping Maduro. He has always been a libertarian. He's not "struggling". He's in control of what he says, and he's showing his true colors.

The "Real Time" host on Friday endorsed President Donald Trump's deadly campaign in Iran and mocked Harris for opposing it.
By Marco Margaritoff

Real Time host Bill Maher continued to paint himself as a progressive critic of President Donald Trump while also taking a swipe at former Vice President Kamala Harris for criticizing the Iran war admitting on Friday that he doesnt hate it.
Also, this week, war, said Maher. Did you hear about that thing? We bombed Iran and its going on. Now, if you expect me to say I hate it, I dont. Sorry! When he puts boots on the ground, yeah, then Ill hate it. Now, I know too many happy Iranian Americans, sorry.
...
I mean, Kamala Harris made a statement, she said, This is a war the American people dont want, Maher continued. And who knows more about what the American people dont want?
...
I just dont get what liberals dont get about liberation, said Maher. I see so much happiness. I see it in Venezuela, I see it here in Iran. Could we skip the part where we talk about, Oh, they had so many different reasons for going to war, regime change and we gotta get rid of the nukes and they were supporters of terrorism.

And, from EarlG:
I will note that DU's "Don't peddle right-wing talking points, smears, or sources" rule does carve out an exception for such sources:
Do not post right-wing talking points or smears. Do not post content sourced from right-wing publications, authors, or pundits. Exceptions are permitted if you provide a clear reason for doing so that is consistent with the values of this website.
Note that if you want to use a source which would typically be considered inappropriate for DU, you need to to give a clear reason for why you're doing it. If the purpose is to point out that MAGA media is turning against Trump, or if you want to highlight the awfulness of a particular X post by some right-wing public figure, then you need to give a clear explanation that that is your intent.
But simply reposting content from neo-Nazi or other extremist social media accounts, just because they've criticized Trump or other Republicans, or because they've posted an update about the war with Iran, does NOT count under the rule exception.

(EarlG's bolding)
I would submit that Maher's publicity about who he interviews now falls under the "right-wing talking points, smears, or sources" rule, unless it's qualified with "yeah, I know he's a RW shithead" - and you shouldn't be relying on replies to provide the qualification.
