Without the medical exemption he would have absolutely been drafted and very likely have been sent to Vietnam. His lottery number is known and he would have been drafted, period. As he and his father well knew.

Somebody in the Queens/Brooklyn/Manhattan draft area was drafted in his place. Straight up draft dodger, not even a close call.

I had a couple friends who were sent to military school. We all saw it as punishment for bad behavior. And neither of them went into the real military afterward. I had many other friends and family that did enlist, in all 4 branches. Worked out great for most, not so well for a few.
