Another DUer said this yesterday. It's been rattling around inside my head ever since.

"I didn't want any of this in my golden years. I just wanted to live in peace with my cats."

Now I find my life book ended by two unnecessary wars. I am outraged that we have allowed one deranged old bastard to do so much damage. The entire world hates us.

No matter how the Epstein War ends, that peace I was looking for will never return in my life time.

I'm going to find a cat to pet.

It is tens of millions of Americans who chose exactly this (their disingenuous protestations of "I didn't vote for this" are outright lies).

They all knew exactly what that thing was when they voted for him. Again.

And even more tens of millions of Americans couldn't get off their asses and vote against that thing. Again.

America isn't being fucked up by one guy (nor by several hundred cynical spineless politicians in DC who do nothing but indulge him). America is fucked up, deep down and all over.

Maybe Talarico has it in him to be a uniter not divider, the thing Bush fraudulently sold. He is less pugilistically “go team”.

I am not American, but in addition to climate change and the worst form of globalization (Facebook, Google etc and limits to growth testing junk capitalism with no products or services but extortion) affecting me daily here in India (in addition to our own overpopulation, dysfunction, homegrown insanity and our own adorably sleazy indigenous billionaires), if nukes are dropped in Iran, we will be not screwn but screwed.

I am not surprised that the football team type of approach works for the GOP..Trump is mainly known for reality tv and emotion manipulation is how that medium works and it works best for this Goebbels type without even bots…the sleazy human touch! I remember Trump’s speech on a snake a long time ago..so creepy and malicious. The KGB and even CIA etc use similar gambits.

My dad has been to Russia (he is an Indian military vet..no ties to espionage etc. Scratch the surface and my family is not very good at basic diplomacy, to the point of rudeness unfortunately, let alone subterfuge).

He has said that the Russian approach is a more Machiavellian approach than makes sense to the average, no-nonsense military officer. He did like average Russian people though..who he viewed as struggling under a nightmarish system.

Even when that Machiavellian stuff is not very convincing or persuasive in any material or real way, it is annoying..constant swiping at mosquitoes.

I believe less in influence on the whole than in ransomware..But I am never very easily swayed..sometimes one has to figure out how best to get rid of the immediate personal nuisance and ignore personally irrelevant ones..

So maybe influence is real. God..that would be such a nightmarish experience..batted every which way by random algorithms or buying into Trump whose reelection my brain mostly associates with: 1) Galileo’s capitulation to avoid torture..I remember my grand-dad telling me about his softly saying “Eppur si muove” (that must be the position of anyone with a science job they/we cannot afford to lose/have them lose 2) Wodehouse’s radio broadcasts after being captured by German forces, which is how I sometimes feel as I warily poke around online trying to find the bloody exit..dammit..

there are some people still angry about the ouster of Richard Nixon. I believe there some republicans, back then, who really didn’t want him kicked out of office, but they felt cornered to do so. Ever since then they have tried to get back at democrats drumming up charges that they are ALL corrupt as well.

Stereotypes are not, shall we say, always cricket (not to be confused with the late Cricket 🐶 ).

No need to denigrate trailers. My Grandparents lived for a time in one in NJ, near his work. They were good Democrats.

No need to denigrate Dollar Store/Dollar Tree, for many Americans of any and all political stripes benefit from their existence, my beloved and on Medicaid 83-year-old Democratic Aunt for one.

But more to my point, savvy shoppers know these stores are aces for certain things. For example, paper/office essentials---I get all my tablets, pens, business envelopes, paper clips, staples, markers, etc. at my Dollar Tree, as well as cleaning products.

Finally, rest assured foreign-made goods are sold in every area of the country.

I'm just sayin'.

Resident for many years before joining the Navy.
Sorry to break The woke, (with a “W” rules)
Guess you hate the series Trailer Park Boys with Bubbles and the gang. I will burn my CD complete series of the comedy.
Had my laundry stolen from the Park Laundry mat 2 times while there. And 3 meth lab busts in that same Park. Probably not Dems then, but Nixon was in charge so who knows.
When I joined the Service, after needing to get the hell Outta there with no voting rights and a draft number of 324, it was still my only way to move on. The Park built my character and pushed me to make a change. Not all Parks are paradise, not all subdivision are, not all condo’s and not all mountain coves up here are. So I will just shut my pie hole to not offend anyone while relating to my life experiences.
We have 12 Dollar stores in my small county and growing. A that’s the only job opportunity here in Upstate Florida NC, those being the only ones that can afford, and are buying all the mountain tops.
But a dozen gun stores and over 30 churches. Even snake handlers.
Trailer Park Boys was, is funny, not ashamed to laugh at the stories of that life, I lived it. My parents had no basement.
So it gave me opportunity to start an adult life. Very thankful for that.
We have a large trailer community that live right by the river that Helen took out as did other big floods here. And they all built right back. It’s the only property they can afford.
A sad reality. Billionaire playhouses for summer get aways for the rich force them to stay there.
Guess I could make fun of the billionaire MAGA’s that live on Islands or gated communities, or mountain tops, but that will be offensive to the good ones, so, pie hole shut. Gonna work my WOKE regs.
Proud one time Trailer Park Boy with the skills gained. Never leave the Laundry Mat. (Even though those cloths were Dollar Store cloths I could afford then) still hurt my budget.
Bubbles is everywhere.

51. Dictatorship was in the making long before 2024.
Sat Mar 14, 2026, 12:43 PM

Anyone who had cursory knowledge of human behavior knew that Diddling Donny's logic called for becoming a dictator as early as 2015. It was easy to follow his logic as candidate, then president. I knew and wrote back then that Donny could ONLY bully the GOP into silence while he runs roughshod over norms and laws toward dictatorial rule. He's neutered Congress and the Courts, and pays no attention to either of them in the name of self-aggrandizement. So now, he's wrecking the middle east (already a quagmire), Venezuela, he's alienated Canada and the EU, divorced the US from NATO, threatened Central and South America, threatened Cuba, and there's more of the worst to come. If the most mundane of minds in the theater of public discourse just articulated what we could all see from over 10 years ago, we could claim that the Fourth Estate and corporate culture provided proper stewardship of our Constitution. But no one cared and Donny's "star quality" blurred all of the warning signs and turned them into momentary objections. Now? We're fucked.

When I retired some years ago I thought I finally could relax and spend time on the things I enjoy - music, painting, reading, hanging out in the woods, petting my cats. And for a few years it was good. I have, or at least had, enough money to get along relatively comfortably if I was careful. Then came the pandemic, a scary time to be sure. But Joe Biden became president and I finally didn't have to worry about what kind of fuckery my government might be getting up to. Then, fast forward and here we are. Maybe WWIII but at least some very bad shit; maybe economic collapse; maybe another 9/11; civil rights at risk; armed government goons snatching people off the streets. Too bad about those golden years. At least I'm not alone; the anti-ICE/anti-war demonstrations are disproportionately populated by people in their '70s and '80s, wondering why the hell we're still having to protest this shit.

Having an office job meant stress, sitting all day, being indoors way too much. The horse work got her outdoors and working her muscles. She found out horses are amazing therapy as they pick up on your mood and force you to learn to live in the moment and handle stress better. Their hearts and brainwaves tend to sync with ours, and they can help calm us, ground us, and give 100% assurances that they will never betray us by blabbing what secrets we need to share.

Plus, they have really soft noses and many are wicked smart with well developed senses of humor.

Last year, he seemed about to cash it in and I was very heartbroken facing the loss of my dear fur kid. But I got a supplement for the dogs' teeth and read it was good for cats too. Since he gets a tiny scoop daily, he is about 5 years younger. It's either the kelp or his devotion and worry about me, maybe both. But he is like my personal watch dog/therapy caregiver/ and keeper of the purrs. It is a HUGE help to have his stress lowering influence.

Find a cat to pet. Maybe find a dog to throw a ball for too. We need those calm moments now more than ever in our lifetimes.

especially because I lost my oldest and most faithful kitty this week, the one that out of the ten cats I have rescued in my lifetime was my heart and my familiar. The three that remain are all pretty young and healthy (knock on wood) and I love them all so very much, but she was my soul cat and I still just can't believe she's gone.

After 18 years, she was a constant in my life. My other girl cat that lived 20-1/2 years was with me through my happy, productive years (1999-2019), but this one saw me through (what I effin' HOPE will be) the darkest days of my life, beginning with the suicide of a close friend at age 39 in August of 2019, up through and including losing the previously-mentioned old AF tortie girl, and then, among many others, my soulmate of 20+ years to COVID and my beloved mama to a brain tumor 11 months later. So many sleepless nights, I reached out for a hand and found a paw.

I feel like I've (once again) lost my very moorings. Her ashes come home today.

I am allergic to cats so found a pup that would remain small where I could exercise him in the house

Loki listens to my rants, makes me laugh everyday and jumps on my lap and sniffs my mouth every time I sneeze. I feel saw for any person who has not experienced the loyalty of a pet and knows the responsibility of returning loyalty through daily love and care. Our country would be different if those in this current administration were capable of this kind of love.
