Costly lies in mail about candidate from a crypto PAC?

I don’t even live in Illinois anymore but I received on the same day:
*A flyer from “fairshake.org” claiming that Robert Peter is a “corporate pawn” who took nearly $140,000 in corporate money
AND
*text messages purportedly from Bernie Sanders saying that Robert Peters will fight corporate interests

I don’t follow Illinois politics, so I had to look up who is Robert Peters. And I learned that Bernie sanders is indeed backing him while Fairshake is a pro-crypto PAC who is throwing money at him.

These ads aren’t merely deceptive; they portray a candidate as the complete opposite of what they are, and they have money to mail ads to someone who no longer lives in that state, and they, probably targeted the ad with knowledge . This crypto pac had at least $193 million to spend as of January 2026. They spent $10 million opposing Katie Porter last year in the primaries.

Their preferred candidate won in something like 32 out of 33 races.
