IL-09: Poll shows congressional race has tightened
RoundTable/PPP polling: A March 9-10 poll commissioned by the RoundTable shows Daniel Biss still leads the local Democratic congressional race, with Kat Abughazaleh gaining and Laura Fine falling behind. The poll also found Mike Simmons picked up support, and 17% of respondents were still undecided. (Above, from left: candidates Bushra Amiwala, Phil Andrew, Simmons, Abughazaleh, Biss and Fine.) Check all the results, and compare them against Feb. 20-21 poll data.
On the issues: In both RoundTable/PPP polls, threats to democracy ranked as the top issue, cited by 46% of respondents, with inflation and the cost of living a distant second. With a Mideast war underway, the percentage of those picking Israel and Palestine in March doubled, to 6%. Take a deeper look. Also, examine the policies and platforms of the three front-runners.
Methodology note: Our polls of likely Democratic primary voters used text-to-web messages and automated landline calls. Responses were weighted to more accurately reflect 9th Congressional District demographics. Public Policy Polling, the firm that conducted both polls, uses digital safeguards to ensure any attempts to submit multiple entries from one respondent are disqualified. As a nonprofit, the RoundTable does not endorse or oppose candidates.
