McDonough Co. election judge accused of threatening voter at the ballot box Tuesday

Imagine going to cast your vote on election night, only to have your life threatened for asking for your party’s ballot.

Apparently that’s what happened in McDonough County on Tuesday.

In a shocking display of partisanship at the polls Tuesday, a McDonough county election judge is accused of threatening a voter -- saying they “should be shot” for requesting a Democratic ballot.

Voter intimidation is illegal, at the federal level the penalty is up to a year in prison and a monetary fine.

“The poll worker next to her said ‘well my husband used to vote democrat but,’ and she stopped mid-sentence,” Sutton said. “I was a bit taken back, I couldn’t believe what had just happened.”

Sutton proceeded to fill out his ballot, and then went straight to the courthouse to speak with McDonough County Clerk Jeremy Benson ...
