The entire world is cooked because something like 1% of the human population wanted a 2nd round of King OJC. Should humanity survive our current predicament, a far-from-certain outcome, ensuring such idiocy never dominates the world again needs to be a high priority, right up there with cancer treatment research. We actually might need to learn from history this time -- it's way too risky to repeat these mistakes. Not anymore. We can't pretend that democracy is something humans just know how to do correctly from birth, nor that the effects of our mistakes don't propagate beyond our borders or our species.
Everyone, every life form on the planet, whether they know it or not, relies on us to get this shit right every time. When we get it wrong, which happens a lot, there's always a price.
