My brother in law owns a very successful engineering firm. He has all the accoutrements of a wealthy lifestyle: a huge house, expensive vehicles, and a vacuous trophy wife. We recently got into a discussion over political views. His only answer for supporting the current administration is the tax breaks he gets due to current policies. Outside of that, he doesnt have an opinion on immigration, Epstein, or the US foreign policy. He just doesnt seem to care as long as his interests are protected.
That said, he and his wife has managed to totally alienate one son and his family and pressures his daughter and second son, my son in law, to conform to their point of view, telling them how to conduct their lives. I get an earful asking for advice from my daughter; it has created a lot of tension and anxiety to which the MAGA parents cant seem to comprehend. At present, there seems to some kind of detente as my daughter has let them know that their interference may result in yet another estrangement. I wonder how many successful people have the same selfish philosophy

(437 posts)I get confused with familial relationships. They have two sons, one is my son in law, and one daughter. Does this make the parents in-laws laws?

(52,269 posts)I finally accepted an invitation to my in-laws house, which they extended, even when they know we are on opposite sides of the political spectrum. This time around, I did not hold back when they spouted off their political beliefs. It just happened twice, actually. The first time I expressed my true feelings without showing any emotion. I wasn't mad. Just wanted to make a point. The second time, I simply disagreed with cliche and the reaction was pretty amazing. The in-law clenched her teeth and made a face like the amalgam in her teeth had bitten into aluminum foil. That's when I realized what delicate flowers they are.

or who's kids he throws in concentration camps, or who's kids he kills, as long as they get their tax cut.
Their wealth insulates them from due criticism. Other wealthy people do well under progressive tax policies.
Your in-laws inflict violence upon others via would-be "smart" economics. Parasites performing human alchemy.
