Here's my take. Trump has developed a tell. He moved an aircraft carrier stationed just outside of Venezuela, and a few weeks later sent in special forces to arrest Maduro.

He sent two carriers outside of Iran and attacked within 10 days.

Trump is not sending thousands of special forces Marines to the Middle East for a sightseeing tour. They will attack and occupy Kharg Island within two weeks.

There will be boots on the ground. Trump better hope all goes well, and those brave men and women are successful and it's done quickly, or he is fucked.

What they can do is booby trap Kharg and/or attack it with drones and missiles, leaving US troops sitting ducks. As well they can do more severe infrasctructure/desalinization attacks on Gulf states.
