ProfTalmadge @ProfTalmadgeFormer CENTCOM commander Gen. Votel skeptical of military value of Kharg seizure: "Im not sure what the significance is of putting troops there. Its only about 20 miles off the coast of Iran. So youre definitely under the threat of their weapon systems. Youd be very, very vulnerable there. And I dont know that it would give us any particular tactical advantage that we dont already have or couldnt get someplace else at an offset location where we have established bases and other things like that. So Im not sure what the tactical advantage of it is."

Former CENTCOM Commander Gen. Votel on likely continuing impact of even a small residual Iranian missile and drone capability: "Dont pay attention to the numbers. The fact of the matter is, theyre going to have a remnant portion of capabilities, and thats a portion were focused on right now. Irans strategy has been to broaden the conflict by hitting a lot of different places, 12 or 13 different countries, and then to extend it by continuing to present this threat to us over a long period of time. They dont have to shoot large volleys of missiles and drones. They just have to get some across. They just have to launch some every day. And thats going to keep our focus, and its going to keep us occupied doing that. So thats their strategy on this."

(5,146 posts)People dont give Donald enough credit - he is a master chess player. He has genius genes (as shown by his uncle that taught as CalTech) and nearness to genius genes makes him a genius too.
Plus, he knows only the best people and that is why the neo-Nazi that he hired is in charge of the military. Germany during WW2 had one of the best armies so by putting a neo-Nazi in charge he is getting some of brilliance of Nazi Germany in charge.
We can all relax now - cause Trump has a handle on everything.
Did I forget his Board of Peace - they will send allies that he doesnt need to help him open us the Strait of Hormuz that doesnt need to be opened because it has mines that are not there.
And really, we didnt really the Strait opened because we are doing this for our old NATO allies that dont appreciate the wonderful thing that we did for them, not us. While we are paying higher gas prices (up $1.10 here) the benefits outweigh the costs as everyone can tell you, this is because Iran had nuclear capability that in a couple of weeks would have bombed the west coast of America and maybe even hit Florida.
MAGA for the win.

(6,443 posts)capabilities and our "boots on the ground" could become sitting ducks.
MS NOW, about 40 minutes ago, reported that Iran struck a US-British military base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. My map revealed that a strike like that traveled about 2,400 miles, measured to the SE from the Strait of Hormuz.
Plus, how accurate is our intelligence insofar as weapons that may be provided to Iran by China and possibly Russia? Thanks to Doge, we've likely lost a ton of foreign intelligence knowledge -- and every country in the world knows that djt doesn't educate himself about anything.

(94,157 posts)Iran fired two ballistic missiles at Diego Garcia, a joint US-UK military base on a remote island in the Indian ocean.
Neither of the missiles hit the base, with one failing in flight. A US warship fired a SM-3 interceptor at the other, but it could not be determined whether an interception was made.
Diego Garcia is located roughly 4,000 kilometers from Iran, indicating that Tehrans missiles may be capable of reaching farther than has previously been acknowledged.
