Here's what I don't know: if Trump closes these fields, will he close the ENTIRE field or just passenger operations? One of these fields stands out: Louisville Muhammad Ali International. In 2024, this airport handled 4.8 million passengers, which makes it "not huge" - there are airports which handle an order of magnitude more than that - but passengers are NOT their main focus. Cargo is. This airport is home to the UPS WorldPort, their major hub and the world's largest automated sorting facility. Another one that would hurt is Guam International - not because it's some massive hub for anything, but because it's literally the only civil airport on the island.

(53,155 posts)For instance, he's talking about closing airports in Hawaii. There are lots of hotels on the islands served by the airports Trump wants to shutter that would themselves close if there was no air service to the islands.
He also has Colorado Springs on his list. That would be a huge problem for the Department of the Air Force - there are three Space Force Stations and the Air Force Academy there, and all four of them use that airport to transit personnel in and out of the area.

(53,155 posts)The private-jet crowd might not think so, but on the south side of Orlando is a nice big airport that could potentially absorb all the commercial traffic from Orlando Sanford.
On the other hand, if he closes Spokane International everyone here is stuck with the task of driving all the way across the state to get to Sea-Tac.

Rhode Island T. F. Green International, Rhode Island (PVD), and Burlington International, Vermont (BTV) would do to an already overcrowded and overworked Logan Airport in Boston. What a mess that would be!
