Jesus Christ , Genghis Khan and the Prime Minster

Hi,

I hope this doesn’t offend anyone from different cultures, religions, or backgrounds. I’m not a scholar of world religions or ancient history.

It seems to me that the gentleman is suggesting that evil in the world can’t be stopped by Jesus Christ—Yeshua—who taught love and peace.

What do you think?

My own view: I’m on the side of Yeshua and other wisdom teachers. When someone tries to justify their actions by claiming they’re acting as a kind of “backup quarterback” for the Divine/Holy/Sacred teachers…..

👉🏽Note: I am not antisemitic and I have always supported Israel’s right to exist. I wish peace for all people in the MidEast.
I respect all faiths and spiritual traditions.

transcript :
You know, one of the greatest writers of the 20th century, someone that I admire a lot, was the historian Will Durant. Now, he wrote many volumes. I read most of them. He also wrote The Lessons of History, a very brief, 100-page book, in which he said, well, history proves that, unfortunately and unhappily, Jesus Christ has no advantage over Genghis Khan. Because if you are strong enough, ruthless enough, powerful enough, evil will overcome good. Aggression will overcome moderation. So you have no choice. If you look at the world as it is today, you have to be blind not to see that the democracies led by the United States have to reassert their will to defend themselves. And to oppose their enemies in time, while there’s still time, before the jarring gong of danger wakes them up and wakes them up too late. This is where we are now.

It hasn't always been this way, but every history book is full of the tyrants, murderers, oppressors, conquerors. There just isn't much type devoted to the societies that survived for a long time with philosophies of kindness, fairness, and equity.

Yet, we have leaders that keep giving us platitudes like "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice". I get that it is a long struggle, and without some hope and optimism, all is lost from the very outset. But the simple truth is that evil always has the easier time of it. Forces of fairness, kindness, and justice must work 10 times harder.

I appreciate your reflection . It feels that it was a harsh message, that we always need to be at war .

I agree , forces of goodness needs more presence in the world.

Nietzsche:

"He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."
