Fwiw, Recommending a history YouTube channel, ripping down myths we were taught

First, this is *NOT* about AI. Yes, this channel and many others might be using AI for graphics and illustrations, but the narrative content here (and others) is historically based.

I was calling YouTube "The University of YouTube" long before the nefarious ROGAN (whom I don't look at) started calling stuff his education, and I "discovered" before that that he was under-educated formally and was dredging his crackpot theories from YouTube videos. I also say that *critical thinking* is a mainstay of Liberal Arts education and that it is a canard of non-internet people to dismiss every mention of "the internet" as being ALL junk and slop, smearing us as soaking up anything we hear or see without distinguishing and discriminating stuff like sponges - the way MAGAts actually do with the Faux Propaganda Network and all their "think" tanks and podcasts and Stephen MILLER propagandists.

*** Anyway, it is a thing that our national education system purveyed rosy myths and otherwise condemnation of historical personages on a "Good" "Bad" basis, not really a graduated spectrum, more like Slam Bam. Heroes and Villains. In my last score of years, the internet and now specificaly YouTube have opened horizons in many directions - from "visiting" foreign lands and cultures, to how-to fix all kinds of things, vistas and mundanities and everything in between.

In the past 4 or 5 years I've been gobsmacked into the Greeks-Romans-Egyptians and the gritty origins of X-tianity. I was an unlabelled atheist-agnostic-LapsedCatholic before, but just knew it didn't make sense and blind "Belief" was no answer. Finding YouTubes of religion scholars has been a "revelation," cf. Mythvision.

*** But to the point: I had arrived at my No-Heroes/no-worship-individuals since the '90s, but a very specific phenomenon of YouTube has been the History and biographical undressing of all the myths and judgments of our academic brainwashing. Not only the historical personages, but gee whiz all the dirt on celebrities. Very few have been left unscathed.

The political offshoot is: Our Democratic AGENDA above everything and everyone - NO worship of individuals. Our leaders are evaluated by how effective they are in furthering our AGENDA - NOT celebrityhood or "Royalty" entitlement. If somebody in our camp does criminal or unethical things, they forfeit our Democratic label and if office holders should resign on the spot.

This history channel is *FANTASTIC*! Yes, I knew that the much maligned Herod "the Great" did some big building, and the video lays out that part extensively well, but it also goes into breathtaking detail about his personal atrocities. Same goes for their video on Alexander the Great - not your Colin FARRELL (which I didn't see). Will see the vid on Cleopatra soon.

Here's the channel: Ancestral ::

found them eye opening in the gritty details of the massacres, personal and political machinations, and psychopathic characteristics. I recall that at least one of them cited the source book at the end. Somebody used the "alt right" slur, which is absurd in exposing the anti-heroic pathologies of the historical figures, missing the whole point of not worshipping individuals. If anything it might be a reinforcing "view" to be against war brutality and blind allegiance. I surmise that the 40 videos aren't from any one source, but then I haven't done nuclear research.

Your responses are in the generalized territory that I cited as being blanket dismissive, and you're not going to get me into the tit for tat thing. That you have reached facile attributions of motives and ignore anything said, my having to repeat and rattle on is futile, more the pity since I don't recall majorly disagreeing with what past posts of yours I've seen. i will say, however, I don't like the tone and projections. As for my recommendation, it's take-it-or-leave-it for anybody and can only hope you grant the same to others who might like it. So long.

I'd like to know who owns the channel before getting too invested in its versions of history; but a quick duckduckgo search isn't even turning up a website.

but the illustrations inside are chock full of sexualized males, too, like what's seen in Superman, and the narratives describe sex as a significant factor in the olde days - not now? I didn't notice from focusing on the content.

The theme *is* taking down modern rosy cover-ups after all.

One of the premium "members only" videos is How White Men Bought Black Slave Wives in America (1810 Quadroon Balls).

What that channel is peddling doesn't appear to be history. The emphasis isn't history, anyway. It's emphasizing what's lurid and salacious.

If you want to learn about history, there are plenty of books and documentaries by real historians. No real historian would have anything to do with videos like those.

perversion. Besides those videos being badly done AI slop, it's a really bizarre focus.

And that's on top of the videos being made with AI tools trained illegally on datasets of stolen work from real human creatives, including musicians. I noticed the ripoff artist who has that channel used Suno to generate AI music for at least one video, the members-only video I mentioned above, and dared to put a copyright notice in the video description, though what's generated by AI can't be copyrighted.

Anyway, if anyone just looks at the page on that channel showing thumbnails of all the videos, they'll immediately see how strange the channel is.

One "side" /somebody

* fixates on a specific tangent.

* ignores all exposition and responses.

* keeps flailing away forever.

*** Look, my dear highplainsdem (and I mean that endearment from long time past), I've respectfully stayed away from your posts since this AI thing took you over. You won't return the grace to me. Your attacks are full of easily answered responses but I'm 79 and don't want to spend time this way.

Again, and leaving it at this: Leave me alone.

two of the videos are illustrated - the thumbnail image created to sell the video - by images of soldiers restraining women who are apparently about to be raped by animals (a horse and a bull),

one shows a woman screaming as she's raped by Genghis Khan,

two show captive women hanging in the air, screaming, their legs spread,

one shows two women in ripped clothing pushed against a wall, armed soldiers behind them, the video about "the filthy fate of female prisoners in Rome,"

one shows an older woman screaming as she's boiled alive,

and so on.

One sickening scene after another illustrating the "history" videos you're recommending.

Your OP recommends a video about Herod that "goes into breathtaking detail about his personal atrocities" - why do you want people to view images and videos about atrocities like rape, torture and perversions?

The illos with those videos are some of the most grotesque I've seen on YouTube, even on AI slop channels.

There was no "battle" between vikings and Mongols as claimed in one of the hour-long videos on that channel. It never happened. That's not history or based on history. It's entertainment and propaganda and I am sorry when I see people falling for it.
