Scott McConnell of the American Conservative wants Vance to invoke the 25th Amendment

Sounds great, right?

Then it gets a little wild.

He wants Vance to appoint Senator Chris Murphy as his VP and then announce that he, Vance, will not seek election in 2028.

“My advice to Vance: Announce your support of 25th amendment transition,” Scott McConnell, co-founder of The American Conservative, wrote on X on Sunday. “Say Chris Murphy or similar will be veep. Announce you will NOT be a candidate in 2028. Use your position, access to the media to explain why this is necessary. Don't resign.”

I've been joking with my husband that the only way to end this conflict in Iran is for the con to resign. Yeah, that won't happen.

Invoking the 25th sadly won't happen either but I guess it's good that there is a least some discussion about it among Conservatives.

Vance's mentor/benefactor would have to approve. That would be Peter Thiel, I believe Deuxcents 6 hrs ago #1
Why would Vance agree not to run in 28? wnylib 6 hrs ago #2
Not that any of that is going to happen anyway but I imagine the idea is to make it not look like a personal power play. FascismIsDeath 6 hrs ago #3

ie... Vance, if he weren't a power mad manipulative tool, would invoke the 25th to get Trump out of office so we can back off all this insanity and then by vowing not to run himself, it doesn't look like he is just doing it for himself but for the country.

I get the theory on trying to make it look like Vance did not act on his own behalf but for the good of the country. But what makes anyone think that Vance would actually step aside when he is bought and paid for by Thiel? And has a self-centered ego? And Thiel would not let his investment go down the drain.

Cabinet members can also call for the 25th, but none of them would.

Can Congress do it?
