Inspired by hearing Charlie Pierce on Stephanie Miller’s show this morning. Charlie stated that this all began when the republicans discovered that people would actually believe that tax cuts for the wealthy would trickle down to them. However, Charlie left out something. Along with trickle down , the republicans told people that racism and hate were now something to celebrate. America’s racism means more to people than anything else. As long as there’s someone to look down on it doesn’t matter how badly the wealthy are screwing you. Combine that with convincing people who hate that they are true christians and you get where we are now at.

You're absolutely correct as to the early issues they built their fascist movement on. But they cii ll use t gave made it grow into the monster it has become if they had to keep convincing people of the same thing again and again.

Branding democrats as evil socialist, radical leftists, communists, unpatriotic, etc., turned it into an authoritarian movement where they could just do anything and their follower felt that it was the very definition of patriotism to endorse and defend and parrot back their side's propaganda and anyone else was evil.
